Yeah, I would never get rid of it. I hope to eventually turn my truck into a hunting truck. People shit on a 5 foot bed but you can do a lot with it and it sure beats the days I’d load deer or hogs in a dodge caliber. Did you ever hit high mileage with your trucks?

I agree with this but if the OP is satisfied with the 2.7 and it does what he needs there’s no reason to change it up. It may be more of a peace of mind thing. I enjoy the 3.5 and don’t get the hate. Seems like a lot of people on here drive sports cars, but got the taco to use on weekends, and then complain it’s not like the car. I don’t get it. I think as more people post on high mileage threads and there’s more evidence the 3.5 is reliable it’ll change minds. But for reliability, the 2.7 is just on a different level.

I did drive a new TRD off-road and I did like it.

I was actually not even "in the market" for a new truck until next year...but I started doing my research early.
As soon as I saw that the Tacoma was getting totally remade for next year, I moved those plans up a year and improvised.

    Edit:
I can agree with the people saying the 3.5 is a fine truck engine. I don't have any issues with power and my transmission seems to shift fine.

Not sure re 5, though I did have a Nissan Frontier DCSB for a couple of months in 2021.

That said for me it's more I don't want a double cab in the first places so it never gets that far as 5-6 foot bed.

My previous truck was a 2019 F150 four-door with 6.5' bed. Honestly, I can't name a single thing I hauled that *would have fit* in that bed that wouldn't fit in my Tacoma bed. Generally, if it doesn't fit in the Tacoma, it also wouldn't have fit in the F150. I guess that's to say things either easily fit in the Tacoma bed or they were like 8'...and at the end of the day, who cares if it's sticking out (and secured properly) by 3 feet or by 2 feet. It is what it is.

The only thing I really appreciated about that truck was that my mountain bike (29er) or my road bike would fit (not at the same time) in the back cab area...but at the end of the day, they make locks that secure the bike just fine currently anyway.
