I am slightly pushing in the vacuum valve but not much. Still plenty of adjustment on the stopper to get it to close tighter if needed or I can try the shim trick on the spring side. Hard to truly show in pics but based on my guesses I think it’s going to be just fine.

this is how it looks not under vacuum

And both those pics are with me holding it straight up to my led shop lights.

I may have been talking out of turn there with my original comment. Plus butterfly wear is something easier to identify in person. I appreciate you posting another pic though

Painted the bottom of the bed with red primer and flat black, just to slow down / prevent future rust. Not in a rusty area, but makes me feel better. Planning t get this thing back on this weekend and I’ll have a whole truck again.

Quick question how do you release the clip holding the white wire on the side of the fuse box.

Oh man, when I ran my cables I took a flathead and jammed it in there and pried. I'm sure there's a better way but it worked. Pry out.

I was actually able to pull the cable through without breaking anything but I know the replacement won't slip back in the same way

You also won't need the white wire leaving the fuse box to the battery terminal anymore, you can un snap the box and attach it to the post internally or just tape it up nicely and fold it away either in the box or somewhere under the hood.

There’s no reason to really upgrade the wire to the OEM fuse box. When I put in a 240 amp alt in my other Toyota I just ran upgraded cable from new alt to Mrbf fuse at the battery terminal. Dissected the OEM alt line out the loom, and cut it to length and connected it to the battery terminal. As above, removed the OEM battery wire and just heat shrink the end and electric taped it up, zip tied it out of the way. And then ran a 1/0 off the battery side of the Mrbf type fuse at the terminal to my aux panel where I actually needed the extra juice.

Uh no, but that is acceptable I guess. TBH I would just tape it up so it cannot contact anything or detach it entirely. There is a screw block under neath the top of the box you can also attach it to but I wouldn't bother. Sorry, I'd take some pics of mine if I could get to it. I'm travelling ATM

No worries I'll tape it up nicely. Appreciate the feedback.

So far I've got the new alternator in and the old wire harness out

The little aluminum shield around the plug for the alternator was slightly dented in making it so I couldn't get the plug to snap all the way in, man that was a PITA trying to reach back there and bend it out of the way but I finally got it after loosing some finger skin.

Got the 3 new Positive wires (starter, alternator, and top of the fuse box) all reconnected.
Got the ground next to the oil pan and the fender ground done but I'm not sure where the 3rd ground wire is supposed to go

3rd goes nearly vertical down from the battery to the pre-tapped hole in the frame, you'll just need an M6 bolt (the ones with the 10mm heads) and you're in business. Tacomas don't have a frame ground stock so I added one into the kit :)

Perfect thanks, I might have a spare M6 floating around to get that done but it looks like I'll need a new terminal first :anonymous:

For future reference snug plus a 1/4 turn usually gets it done without stretching/breaking those. Over tightening them makes them hard to ever get tight again if they don't break too. You want them just tight enough to not twist on the battery post. Napa sells them individually under the same part number stamped in it. I can send you another if you don't mind waiting though, I keep tons of em on hand

I had it to where I thought it was snug but it still shifted on the post a little, went to give it the final nudge and it cracked. It's no big deal and definitely not the first time I've broken a terminal off. Inexpensive and easy to do
It's still charging better than ever so all in all I'm pleased

Bed, bumper, and taillights are on. Finally coming to a close with this. Just need a front end alignment.
