Devil's advocate: locker made it so I didn't have to call a tow truck to get out of snow bank

    Thank you!

I plan to treat her well, and ask all the dumbass questions I'll have when something's up for sure.

That is, if my google-fu fails me.

Shit, I kept the locker off in any snow with the 4R.

Just aired down to damn near 8-9psi.

LC has only been down to 12-13psi.

Luckily when I was a kid we didn't go hard on them so I'll take either or both.
A fluffy Beligain waffle is a hard thing to say no to..and my local doesn't open until 9 tomorrow

So, assuming a full carrier ARB or Detroit installed side by side in a 4cyl and 6cyl third: the 6 cyl IS stronger. Better bearings and better third housing for sure.

For a lunch box install the biggest failure point in a 6 cyl carrier is the 6, 8? Bolts that hold the 2 carrier halves together so it's really reliant on a quality install. For a welded diff the 4 cyl carrier is stronger because you can weld both side gears to the carrier

Are you the one who welded it? I'd be interested in another core

there's something to that..lockers will get you places you wouldn't have been without. If you're locked you can get into trouble lmao

I have known people who are locked F/R and wheel open when they're solo. Lockers are only to help getting unstuck in those cases

Hmmm, well I had no way of airing up afterwards at the time (even if I would have thought of that).... But ya no the one tire kept spinning, no traction, locker + stranger kid with snow shovel came to the rescue. Then I almost slid into a drainage ditch thanks to the locker lol so back and forth

Honestly I can't speak much about mud.

Only real mud I got into (on purpose) was my Nissan Frontier 4x4 I had before my Tacoma. It wasn't locked and as long as I kept on the gas, it never got stuck. I imagine a locker wouldn't matter as you wouldn't want it on with that much momentum especially when you jump out the mud and catch some real traction. You're only asking for shit to break if that happens.

In snow, locker stays off (4R). I've gone in snow at slow speeds in the LC so the Spartan rear never kicked in so I can't say how it'll behave.

No it came to us welded and I haven't tried to unbolt the center to inspect it.

We can do that with all the pretaco diffs for all I care. Things just clutter up FB market when I'm looking for parts.

    Shhh your elitism is showing

For all I care 4cyl and 6 cyl 8" thirds are the same... Maybe not for you, but for anyone with stock power they're not a weak point :luvya:
