Something I noticed, the hose fits extremely loose on the new pcv valve I installed. Any reason for this? I think I'm going to have to buy the new hose now but I'm just hoping I didn't put in the wrong pcv.

Thanks. Was it pretty loose without the clamp? I want to compare the new PCV with the old one but I ended up driving away with it on the roof.

No it was a pretty snug fit even without the clamp.

Sounds like the 250k motor has a crack between the intake and exhaust valve seats, allowing coolant to drip into the combustion chamber. If you’re running errands it probably starts and idles fine. Let it sit for a couple days and it starts with a poor idle and blows some steam out the exhaust. Pretty common for the 3RZ head.

I guess I'll compression test it. I'm trying to find a decent affordable borescope and I could actually look in there

And on the 01 it actually threads in and has this thick pool noodle like thing slides back over it

Awesome man, I appreciate the pictures. Mine threads in as well and I think I was able to fix the issue. Apparently Toyota changed the diameters of the hose and the valve, so all the new ones are a bit skinnier. I found the pool noodle hose from a newer one and it fits on there pretty tight.
I'm still having the rough idle though and it's absolutely killing me. Did you ever get to the bottom of your issue?
