i have an 01 tail light left blinker problem. when the left blinker is on the runners come on and the rears blink. if i put the runners on everything works properly. pulled runner fuse put test light in there and it was blinking on the ground side. even with no runner fuse, if i turn on the blinkers on the rear runners blink. any info would be helpfull. thanks.

Hitch and wiring, aux back-up light, rear strobe lights, radio and underseat sub.
Probably a ground problem or a short to the blinkers/runners. Check all the light connections for corrosion and shorts.

It's a good suspect, but parts changing as a diagnostic tool gets expensive fast. Electrical parts are usually non-returnable.

I knew I would see this!

    Beau FTW

But seriously you will probably need a wiring diagram and start to eliminate different parts in the circuit.

    Scroll down for 2001 Tacoma.

I'm having a very similar issue. I have an 01. When the headlights are turned on, and I use the blinkers, all rear lights including my brake lights, indicators, and third brake light. The front blinkers work okay. While they do this, the relay clicks very fast like a bulb is out, but nothing is out. When I press the brake while the headlights are on, they work fine.
Now, when the headlights are off, everything works fine until I press the brake, the I have the same problem as mentioned before. Let me know if you get this solved, because I have no idea how to fix this.

Oh ya, the guy before me had HIDs, I had an issue with these, but i am not sure if they would have affected my brake lights. I had an issue switching back and forth between hi and low. When I would, only one side would work. I took the, the, apart and reinstalled them, now neither work lol.

If you look back at my post, I had an issue with my blinkers. Sometimes they were blinking rapidly(no the light was not burnt out), however a similar issue was the culperate. The guy who owned the truck before me had tried to do a light mod, looks like he failed and went back to stock. When he did this, he got sloppy with sticking one of the taillight wares back into the female end, right on the actual tail light harness. A couple of the wires frayed, bent out and over the slot where the wire is inserted. It was grounding out.
My purpose for posting this is to explain the importantce of searching for a short. Take apart your lights, every light and check the connections. I even had a professional electrician trouble shoot this, and he never bothered to check the obvious. He thought it was something more critical. Feel free to message me if you need any advice with this. I spent some time being quite frustrated, and I'll be glad to save you the frustration....
