1st Gen Lunchtable Thread - General Discussion

My buddy James was accepted straight into the Academy and is a complete goofball who I've never even seen act remotely serious. But I guess he's got the aptitude for it since they let him fly jets now.

 

In the Marine Corps we have what's called MECP where you go to school as well as OCS to earn your degree and become an officer. It's a really stringent program and not many get accepted which is why many go to college before enlisting.

I never got into planes as a kid but I was into tanks, so when I learned my dad drove a Bradley tank I thought it was cool as fuck.

 

Thats what my grandfather did in the Marines, back in the 50s...drove tanks. I should find out which kind. My dad said he got put in tanks because he told them he knew how to drive tractors lol.

Was after the Korean War and before Vietnam, think he was only in for a couple years so it was during peacetime

 

Oh damn, my bad. I just always assumed you were given the way you've talked about the air force.

 

Infantry officers are even worse.

They learn strategy and what not via textbook; then they wonder why NCO's and Staff NCO's shit on them when they try to implement that shit in the field or in real life.

It's not unheard of where sometimes an NCO loses rank for insubordination; we know wtf to do and how to do it cause we're actually out in the shit. Officers rarely leave their post.

Not really, he rarely ever wanted to talk about it growing up but has more in recent years. His dementia has gotten really bad these past 2 years though and he's had to go into assisted living/memory care recently. I know he keeps his stuff from the Marines posted on his door to his room at the facility because it's the best way for him to remember where his room is

 

They had soda, ice cream, and even cake
