How long did you have to wait for your factory 2022 order/request/whatever it is called?

So I was curious and entered my VIN into the Toyota app as I am waiting for delivery. When I logged in it showed the car had 9 miles on it already. Is that a normal amount for Toyota. I took delivery of a Honda right off trailer and PDI and it had only 4 miles.

 

Probably took the truck for a beer run.

Dealer called last Tuesday to tell me that my truck had been unexpectedly delivered earlier that day. They said that they had a delivery of 5 Tacomas randomly show up. This was quite a surprise as it was scheduled to be built on 1/30/2023 and wasn’t supposed to be delivered to the dealership for another month or so.

There was a plot twist however. It was supposed to be an OR with Advanced Tech and Premium package according to what the dealer told me when they secured the allocation for me. The VSpec they sent later confirmed this configuration. When I showed up to the dealership to take it for a test drive and sign the paperwork, I discovered that it had Advanced Tech, but not the Premium Package. The dealer seemed to be baffled by this and said that they were not able find any record of the truck from the VSpec in their system. Ultimately, it worked out OK as I’m fine with cloth seats vs leather and not having a moon roof. It ended up being about $2,500 less expensive. Additionally, they didn’t have any other allocations to offer me, so the wait would have continued indefinitely.

I originally put down a deposit on a 2022 Army Green OR in May. In September I amended the order to a 2023 Lunar Rock OR as Army Green was no longer available. The process ended up taking 8 1/2 months in total. I did shop around a across multiple dealers and states, but didn’t end up having much luck. Many dealers I spoke with were doing non-negotiable markups and add ons. That was a no go for me. I did find a couple of good options out of state for MSRP, and even one that was a little under MSRP. However, those dealers were not selling to out of state buyers.

I did get the truck for MSRP. I asked if they could come down on the price due to the miscommunication on the Premium package. They were not able to sell below MSRP, but they did come up on the price of my trade and cut me a really good deal on adding heated seats and a tonneau cover to make up for it. Overall my local dealer treated me really well and has been great to work with.

I’m glad that the wait is finally over and I’m really happy with my new Tacoma.
