Looking at the two AT trims, the Adventure gets an extra gallon and a half of gas, but beyond that everything else could be added later. Not sure it's worth the near $3K difference in price unless you are dead set on the white and gold. I personally like the black and red more on the AT, but I know that's not the most popular.

I shit you not, I have family that flies in from Mexico and does that with PlayStations, apple and Nintendo stuff. There’s a ridiculous markup on those things south of the border and they make a killing every Black Friday.

Yup. CC might be trickier to add, but it's doable, along with the tires/wheels. IDK enough about bikes to know if it'd be able to be done cheaper, though.

Well I owned one and it was a money pit. $500 for a break rotor, $1000 for an alternator, etc.

It also has electronic dampening suspension, and heated grips.

What I also found out is the US/NA base version cannot control the factory fogs from the handlebar controls. So even if you add them, you have to add a separate switch

PS, there are 4 total models. Each trim has option for DCT

We're talking about motorcycles, Sir. Not scooters with automatic transmissions. :p

I'm kidding because I think scooters are cool too. I just don't consider the transmission to be a change in the trim. A TRD Pro with a stick or an auto is still a TRD Pro. Semantics, I know.

As for the other options on it, yeah, they are there, but are they worth the cost? I think I'd personally rather add those later vs financing it up front. For a cash buyer it may be different.

Idk about you, but I wouldn't want to add electronic suspension later. That is controlled through the menus on the bike. Not sure if it would just plug in and work

You are correct, I wouldn't want to add it, but I don't think I want it in the first place. I'm going to be a mild rider and so that's paying for something I don't think I'd utilize. Most of my "off-road" is just going to be dirt roads, gravel, bit of pot holes and washboards like what I live on. I'm not going to race dunes or do technical rocky trails.

I've known of BMW bikes to go both ways on this. My ex g/f rides a F800ST and I have to say it's been a very reliable, very affordable bike in terms of cost of ownership. What would have been the biggest maintenance expense was a belt replacement. The belt is proprietary to BMW and no aftermarket belt is available in North America at least through normal channels. A little research on a BMW forum and I found a guy with family in Europe where the belt is made by Continental and available through them but apparently only in Europe. He gets his sister in Ireland to order them in small quantities and ship them to him here in the US then he sells them at just enough profit margin to get his for free as needed. She bought 2 new belts that way at $200 each compared to the almost $500 each from BMW. Beyond that, oil, filters, and routine service items were reasonably priced.

Former coworker had a K1100LT, BMW luxury barge and that bike was awful in regards to service costs. It had a hydro-electric center stand that would lift the bike up onto the center stand for you, even while seated on the bike! It started to leak so he called the dealer. Not a serviceable item, you must buy the complete assembly at almost $1200 plus installation! Another forum to the rescue. We found an owner in NJ who had figured out what seals were in it and offered a repair kit. Where we work we had access to a machine shop so that helped. He got one of our machinists to make him a new shaft since his was pitted which is what tore the seals, bought a seal kit form the forum dude and for under $50 had it fixed. Sadly, when his clutch slave cylinder went out it leaked fluid and soaked the actual clutch disc and replacement of that was beyond what he wanted to attempt at home. Entire bike must be suspended from above so it can be split in half between engine and trans so clutch can get replaced. Repair bill for that was over $3500.

The funny thing to me is a lot of people seem to be OK with this kind of drama from their bikes. I guess having an unreliable bike and needing expensive repairs is a cool thing. I know someone who is looking for a bike and wants a Moto Guzzi for the "drama" and that the Japanese equivalents are too boring.

I just want to ride and not have to constantly worry about my bike or how expensive repairs will be...

I definitely agree. It's a huge plus to know that my bike is reliable, easy and reasonable to maintain, and has a decent dealer network when I do need help.

I must also admit that owning a bike like my Buell does NOT meet these criteria so well. The flip side is that when those types of bikes are on their best behavior there is just something about them that make otherwise rational owners willing to overlook the nonsense because the damned thing has "character". Some unexplained quality that makes the bike fun while you simultaneously want to push it off a cliff the next time it breaks something.

I think this is why the correct number of bikes one should own will always be N + 1 where N = the number of bikes you currently own that run.

Cruz wrench should be here tomorrow and that will be the last of the tool kit!

I spent far more than I was expecting but I'm excited. I'm also going to be able to return the Givi box I bought so that will save $110.

Looks about the same as my 390 Duke.

We have a local guy that buys up all the old Toyota "landscaper trucks" from the surrounding states and gets a couple of his buddies and drives them down to Guatemala. Apparently makes a pretty healthy profit cuz of the premium the sell for down there.
