Bigger kids seemed to be normal in the fifties I heard women complain all the time about 12 and 13 pound birth weights .

Mom said I was 12 pounds maybe all the fur added weight.

My favorite airplane story is when I was on a puddle hopper (an isle with single seats on both sides, about 24 total). The greeter was in fact the pilot. He went to start the right engine and all was well. He went to start the left engine and it didn’t start. He tried again… nope. He got out the plane, went turn the prop about 45 degrees and came back… started. We proceeded to fly through the worst storm clouds and turbulence I have ever experienced. Made those movies and AIRPLAINE! look like make believe. The flight home was uneventful…

Finally got around to getting some plumbers putty and resetting the kitchen sink drains. When I put it in I used Vaseline cause that’s all I had. Wanted to fix it before the 10 year mark that is coming up :anonymous:

Aircraft mechanic here. That tape is what we refer to as "speed tape" and is used as a temporary repair until the aircraft can make it into a permanent repair facility. Its designed to be chemical resistant, UV resistant and pressure sensitive. It won't leave a gummy residue when you remove it like Duck Tape for instance. Sure it looks scary to see tape over a seam but it's not that bad. Some of our applications that we use it for are to cover sealant that hasn't cured the allotted time but the aircraft has to meet its scheduled departure time. It'll handle the freezing cold rain and temperatures up at altitude and sitting on a sunbaked airfield for weeks and still have the same hold as it had when it was initially applied.

Most prop-job aircraft have either a hydraulically or oil pressure held prop brake that helps to slow and prevent the prop from wind-milling when the aircraft is stationary. The type I'm familiar with is held open with pressure applied to the system. In the event of a engine failure, system loss, the brake prevents the motor from spinning in flight. As a ground guy, we go out and 'X' the prop to ensure that the prop brake is not holding the prop preventing the motor from stopping. Since it was a smaller aircraft, it's normal that the pilot went out and disengaged the prop-brake prior to flight depending on what the checklist called for. Most of the time when the starter is engaged, it pressurizes the system enough to disengage the prop but if it fails, it's not generally a grounding condition.
