TWers with FOMO will gladly, and even begrudgingly, fork over the entry fee for the new gen.

The hybrid doesn’t seem worth the extra cost and complexity. I think the hybrid only gets better mpg in town. Highway is the same or possibly 1 mpg worse. That’s not even helpful to most people.

Yes I've driven Toyota hybrids before, in multiple continents in fact

Step out of the echo chamber for a bit. Toyota uses NiMH batteries in most hybrids to save money, both in the batteries themselves and in the absence of a cooling/heating system for the pack. The limited capacity means the electric system is mostly just useful for torque fill (which is fine and makes a Prius run circles around a 4-cyl Taco), but the mpg increase is modest in the city, and sometimes becomes a penalty on the highway.

For the plug-in hybrids (Prius Prime, RAV4 Prime) Toyota has no choice but to use lithium, because NiMH can't handle the amount of discharge for EV-only driving.

Keep in mind Toyota is a cost-conscious company. That's why 4Runners didn't get a heated steering wheel for 40 years, until now...

It's there for torque fill. The turbo takes time to spool up (though being a small turbo it's mitigated somewhat). The electric torque is available at 0 rpm, so you get a bigger kick off the line. If it's packaged exclusively with the Pro model though, then it'll likely be stupid overpriced even more so than the Pro model now.

I think people are so ingrained with the idea of "Hybrid" meaning more efficient, that Toyota using Hybrid technology as a power adder is throwing them off. Really people need to look at the power numbers of the Hybrid Tundra vs. Non-Hybrid to get the real picture.

Also the Hybrid is still more efficient with more power is bonkers. Just not much more efficient though.

Also, some people like to just complain too.

"Its i-Force Max hybrid powertrain, featuring a twin-turbo 3.4-liter V6 with an electric motor mounted between the engine and transmission, produces 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque. For comparison, the non-hybrid 2023 Toyota Tundra puts out 389 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque."

That'll be a $120k conversion build in the US. At least they used the OEM tail lights rather than the Ford Econoline lights everyone else uses.

Yes I think a fully loaded with all options and accessorized 4th gen TRD Pro Tacoma will MSRP at $68 or $69k.

TFL built a fully loaded Colorado ZR2 Desert Boss or what ever it's called for $69k.

Isn't there a new Trail Hunter package coming that is supposed to be the top of the line (and most expensive)?

I thought it was supposed to be on the same level as a pro but just an alternative

When? The config was broken when it was released, like most autos are. It allowed you to tack on options that were standard.

But yeah, the Tacoma price is going up. People are still buying at the higher prices, so why wouldn’t Toyota get some of that greenback love too?

That could be. I remember some YouTube channel talking about it being another level up from the Pro. I suppose it's all speculation at this point

What’s the point if it’s not more fuel efficient? Why over complicate something to achieve the same end result? Especially when other manufacturers can get better fuel economy with a standard engine.
