    Greetings,
I have an '05 Prerunner V6. 208K miles. Truck is my daily driver and runs fine but the front end feels kinda loose and bouncy, especially on the highway. I plan on replacing the shocks/struts but was also thinking other components are surely worn out. What else would you replace? Ball joints, control arms, etc? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Anything else that’s wore out should be making some clunks/noise over bumps. How’s it sound on a rough road?

I'd see if you can find someone with a newer truck who took off their stock stuff in lieu of a lift. It'll bolt right up and it's a cheap way to refresh the front end. It honestly wouldn't be a bad idea to replace everything while you're in there. Then you're good for another decade.

    • Lower control arm
    • Coilover
    • Tie rod

Thank you...I don't hear anything clunking except for the noise coming from the intermediate shaft on the steering column which I am also fixing.

If your wanting to replace parts just because your in there I would def. follow Eatsleeptacos advice and find some take offs. I see them time to time on craigslist or offerup for cheap.

I’d start with the front struts or entire coil assembly. Simple swap and you might feel like you have a new truck at that point. If there is any popping / clunking the upper / lower ball joints may need to be replaced ... still loose and you probably need new bushings on the upper / lower arms. in either upper / lower arm case I'd go with @EatSleepTacos advice and look for a take-off OEM.

side story -- I recently replaced struts on an old FJ40 - when I took off the old I compressed the struts and both front and rear struts are still sitting in my garage ... still compressed. It was definitely loose and bouncy. For all I know they were the original struts from 1973. The only pic I took is this one after I manually pulled the original strut to full extension for comparison.

Thank you very much. I've decided to start with entire coil assemblies for now. I don't hear clunking, and the tires are wearing even and normal so I'll just start there.
