Those a my 4 favorite food groups! Haha. I know all about the “Keto flu”. Hit me pretty hard. Half a lime and a few grinds of Himalayan pink salt in a glass of water works great for this.

If you like that look up Dr. Ken Berry. Lots of clear info from him, and he's not selling anything.

I have prayed for you and others in this thread. Two days before you posted.

Yes, for some reason while watching The Chosen, I thought of this thread. I prayed for the OP and others. Then yesterday I was called in for jury duty. And I was among 50 chosen to be picked from for the 12. The case was domestic abuse and the lawyers asked if potential jurors had experienced any type of abuse that led to the legal system. EVERY ONE of the people who spoke involved the abuser being alcoholic and even some of the victims were alcoholics at the time. It was saddening.

Hang tough. You are on the good road.

    I will pray again.

Have you considered running or mountain biking? Riding a bike in the woods is excellent therapy and helps you leave that crap behind even if it is for a few hours. When you have to focus on the trail, everything else leaves your mind. My wife and I both ride and have shared some incredible experiences on MTB rides. We started learning together 33 years and still ride together today.

Will pray for you and your continuing progress.

PS: there is poster with a MTB rider on it and it says "And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul."

Sounds like great therapy. However I haven’t ridden a bike since I was 16. That, and I live in the Panhandle of Texas, up on the cap rock. No trees to be found. I do need to start exercising. I’m sure that would help. Anything to stay occupied would be good.

The next three days will be a challenge, as I am off work. Gotta make sure I stay busy. It’ll probably be an hour by hour thing. I’ll keep y’all posted. I worked last night, and just woke up. Haven’t even got out of bed yet.thought I’d check this thread real quick. It is amazing to me the amount of replies this has already gotten. I truly appreciate it. This means a lot.

Even if you have to go out and get some walkin' shoes or boots and water carrying device - go out and walk, twice a day. LONG walks.

I remember Henry Rollins saying when he gets stressed out he concentrates on his diet and exercise. You can't always control all the other things going on in your life but diet and exercise are 2 things you can control

I hike, snowboard and surf a lot. The best part about it is when you're in the water or on the trail, you can't do anything else except the activity at hand. I found hours of meditation through these activities, just listening to my body and tuning out my brain.

So yes I can't agree more with the above comments about exercise. Anything outdoors, walking, jogging, whatever. Anything that will get your heart rate up.

    My personal liver detox smoothie

1 cup unsweetened almond milk or whatever milk you like that doesn't have sugar. I like almond milk with vitamin E
1 cup or about 2-3 fresh kale leaves (yeah I know)
1 cup unsweetened kefir (in the yogurt dairy section of most grocery stores) - avoid the sugar sweet kind, it tastes better but too much sugar!
1.5 cups (or more) blue berries and/or black berries, fresh or frozen - I use a mix, most docs have blueberries, but I think blackberries are better for you and taste better
1/4 cup or so fresh cranberries (secret ingredient kills the kale taste!)

Into the power blender, whip it good. It won't be overly sweet but it won't be nasty either

Drink a cup or so every couple hours.

My hydration drink I add potassium and magnesium citrate (small amount, can't taste) - before like 3 hours of pickle ball (great distraction for us geezers, full concentration required)

For a protein boost - I will add vanilla protein powder

Also sometimes a little vanilla flavor real vanilla.

    All good.

    Took me a second.

Don't have time for tomorrow when I'm living good today.

I'll echo people suggestion for exercise, regular exercise puts you in such a better state of mind and it also tends to reduce the desire to drink. I hadn't ridden a bike since I was 16 either, pretty much stopped as soon as I got a car. I picked it back up 2 decades plus later at the beginning of covid, with schools and the gyms shut down I needed something to get out of the house and exercise. I chose biking because it was something my kid liked and I could do with him that fit the exercise bill. Easily one of the best life changes I've made in a long time. We'll often ride to a dinner location after work and longer rides on the weekends. Biking is a great therapeutic way to do long exercise outside, its not to late to pick it back up. That said, the best form of exercise is going to be something you'll enjoy and will stick with.

Another exercise suggestion to help focus is to set goals and track them. If it is biking, walking or hiking maybe it is milage or number of sessions or steps per week/month. There are free apps you can use on your phone to track progress. Even tracking without goals helps you look back and see the exercise you've accomplished and is useful as motivation to keep it up/improve.

Stay busy and don't be hesitant to reach out to your friends or here if you are struggling or feeling tempted. Your original post was a great first step, just keep taking it one day at a time.

Ran to town to get some things for supper, get a haircut, etc. Was super tempted to stop by my local watering hole for a Michelada. When I mean tempted, I mean like psychological withdrawals. I hung tough. I’m back home and gonna jump on the treadmill and rowing machine in a bit. Hour by hour…..
