Yeah, I've got a PFA coming up on Monday. I hate running, but I've gotten decent at it since we do it so much.

We used to drive our M-935s and do mobilizer rolls around the AMARC and pose for stupid pictures. We'd also line up to watch any retiring birds fly in on their final flight before getting interned there. It was sad to see the F-4s all come in - I still miss hearing Phantoms phly around.

I do not miss sunrises shining off of the 12th AF building. A copper roof in the desert? Dumb.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
"Same old birds" - correct but with all much newer "stuff" inside them. I (we -wife inc.) had a nice tour up at Offut AFB 4-5 years ago. They were incredibly different inside compared to when I flew missions on the aircraft in 70-71. The only things that I recognized was the oxygen regulator, and the "smell" inside the "back end" . Amazing what a "smell " memory can trigger in ones mind. I also noticed they do not give the back-enders a parachute. I don't know when they stopped providing chutes for the "back-enders" , but this seems sad?

I can't speak for Air Force heavies but the Navy removed parachutes from the C-130 a decade ago as there has never been a mishap where they would have helped, it's either no big deal, glide to the ground or everyone died too fast for a parachute to matter. P-8s will never see a parachute for the same reason.

Pilot took a look and suggested a toe in on a boulder near shore but only one at a time. We dropped my assistant off at a nearby swamp and she took me in. I got this picture of her dropping my assistant off.

Good for you on everything! But
You can do it! My youngest gets his commission in May, on a rated path. He has been deans list every semester in college, scored in the 95th percentile on the afoqt, etc. Missed a pilots slot by 5 points, got drones. He was super bummed at first but now is really excited about it after talking to friends in the drone world. Someone told him “they have to have some smart people in the drones”.
Just be ready for whatever they give you…..

At least he’ll have fresh coffee and comfort as consolation for not being a pilot. If he stays in for a career he might even see some pretty badass drones come into service.

    Hmmmm....
My wife is the SJA of a drone unit. She might agree there are some smart people there. Some.

I spend a lot of time at PDK and yesterday at PDK, they had another big crash with SUPER lucky survivors with very minor injuries.

A small plane with student and IP lost power at take off at about 200-300 feet at the end of the runway.

The instructor did the "180 Impossible No Power Tight Turn" and did a semi-cartwheel landing at the airport.

This was truly a miracle landing with very minor injuries.

    FULL VIDEO BELOW:

    .............

PS: A couple of weeks ago another plane (posted info. here) lost power and went down on the Interstate close to my house.

...^^^... I am just curious  ... they don't mind you guys climbing up and sitting on the aircraft skin (with boots on) and lean against the

    wind screen ?

We would have had our ass kicked for that ... lol

yeesh ... they are VERY lucky. I don't know what was straight ahead but that turn they did ends badly the vast majority of the time.

    Good video BTW.

This was somewhat of a special case because we were all CDQARs there accepting the plane (and when I say it was a turd I mean a big old turd lol) so we were very careful with everything. Plus the windows are extremely durable, you’d be surprised. It had a bad engine among tons of other major issues. What should’ve been a couple day long acceptance took 2 weeks with all the discrepancies we found.

Air Force heavies no chutes except for select missions. I was C-5 FE for 10 years and never once did we have chutes. Then again, it is rare for a C-5 to be flown into an area where chutes would be the order of the day.

...^^^... I am guessing from the video that IF ... he had another 50'-100' in altitude ... he might have been able to land it without too much

    damage.
