Also depends on the expected cost difference between the gas and hybrid models. For a Rav4 the hybrid option is less than 2K more, so its a no-brainer given the MPG improvements. The math might be different for the new Tacoma. If cost difference is 2-3K and the MPG improvement is only 1-2 MPG, I'd just get the gas version or, better yet, just keep driving my V6.

100 lb-ft more torque without a fuel economy penalty as @Lt. Dangle mentioned. At least in Tundra's case it isn't marketed as a greenie option, but a power option (iForce "Max")

That front end resembles the Tundra. Not good.

Keep in mind the 4th gen hasn't been announced by Toyota to exist at all.

And then some. Some guys are (foolishly) willing to fork over thousands of dollars ABOVE sticker price. And Toyota knows this, yet allows dealers to do it. It’s all about the bottom line.

If I needed more power I would just buy an HD truck like an F250 or Ram 2500. I’m not going to buy something overly complicated and difficult to self repair and also more expensive. I don’t understand the direction Toyota is going with their trucks. They’re trucks not Prius’s.

^Just because you aren't looking for more power in a 1500-class truck doesn't mean others aren't. :notsure: Competitors have hybrid offerings too (think F150 Powerboost and Ram E-Torque). Competitors also have high-power gas models like the Raptor R and Ram TRX, though not sure for how much longer.

Toyota's hybrid implementation in the Tundra is fairly simple and robust actually. The motor sandwiches between the engine and transmission. Packaging is similar to a 4x4 crawl box but with fewer moving parts. The battery pack just sits in the cabin below the rear seat. No moving parts, no coolant system. Old Prius tech proven over 22 years in the US. The whole system is less dodgy than the particulate filters and DEF fluid systems (which have their own tank, pump and heater) needed in the competitors' small diesel offerings, for example.

Gazoo Racing trim, no less, so it comes with paddle shifters. Stock 4000-rpm redline is retained, however.

    Not for American fat asses…

That was built in Japan, they are of smaller stature. Wasn’t until Toyota came state side that, well… Toyotas have grown in girth.

Hate to break it to ya, modern vehicles are already insanely complicated. What is a little more? Want less go find an old mechanical diesel.

My 1st Gen Taco is less complicated than my 3rd, even then never had any problems with the electrical, only had mechanical failures. Seals, gaskets, axles, differentials, ball joints, CVs, shocks, u-joints, clutches, bearings, etc…well ok one fuel pump, but that far less than the others.
