1st Gen Lunchtable Thread - General Discussion

Some people run the cooler t-stats with them, I don't think it's necessary unless maybe you're really pushing your setup with more boost. I think TRD used to offer a 170˚ one and there's a 170˚ Corolla t-stat that fits, I think I actually bought it a couple years ago but never installed

Seemingly cannot get a reprieve from the weather, I think we are going to maybe get butt pounded on Friday

 

Dropped off those motor mounts, customer is super happy and already made a request for some Dana 80 rear arm mounts.

 

I think the DC tow package fan clutch is more aggressive than the standard 3.4l fan clutch? dunno brain is too smooth to remember anything

 

I think I've heard that before too....two smoothbrain confirmations are better than one

the big difference is the trans cooler right? Never had to worry about one so not sure

 

There's a colored band on the fan clutch assembly. Orange and green are the two variants.

 

I'll add some water brain. If the truck had a tow package from the dealer, they got a "heavy duty" fan clutch. I think they were green.

I found the green to be far louder than my stock orange. Truck roars at low speeds.

I never towed with the orange so no clue if it made any real difference in stuff like stop and go traffic.

 

Green one is the one you want.



I had put one in the 4R.

 

The first time I drove my truck after the e-fans were removed and stock fan clutch put in, it scared the shit out of me sounded like a semi truck coming my way. Totally not used to it

 

Ye cooling is fine on flat highways, just uphill or idle too long and it creeps, never past 203 but I know this isn’t ideal.

I don’t care about noise more efficiently cooling is the goal for me

 

My electric fan are pretty damn loud

It "locks up" at a lower temp so it'll start spinning sooner than the orange one hence it being louder.

I never towed with the Tacoma but did with the 4R and in general, the 4R was cool especially after throwing in a new thermostat. That's saying something considering a 4R runs just a tad warmer than a Tacoma (all things being equal).

 

It was no where near as bad as I make it in my head, but ever since my 5 lug truck overheated 3/4 instead of 1/2 on my dummy gauge. My radiator had cracked I’ve always been paranoid about monitoring temps in my vehicle

 

Anyone talk to that @what road guy
