So how much longer is Toyota going to wait to reveal the 4th gen? GM is moving along with the new canyon and colorados. Those will be getting 300hp and 409ft lbs of torque on the top trims. Ridiculous. I know lots of the Toyota fans here like Toyota because they never update and keep it simple but some of us don’t. I still can’t believe people pay 60k plus for a brand new 4Runner that hasn’t changed in 15 years and no new model in site. The 3rd gen Tacoma rode the wave of the second gen and the best looks in the segment but even these are getting long in the tooth.

You have a 2nd Gen so why do you even care how complicated it is lol . Sounds like you will bury yourself in it anyway

No that's the Highlander. Waggle your foot and the powered hatch opens, while your hands are full with bags.

Toyota is conservative, they update for 3 reasons: 1 - Benefit their manufacturing with simplification/lower cost, aka value engineering. 2 - respond to government mandate so they can still access a market. 3 - the competition forced their hand and they finally had to bring more.

Today Toyota sells all of the Tacomas they WANT to build and the PRICE they want to sell them at. Hence the loss of low trims. They want higher feature/trim mix and they don’t want to expand production volume.

The 4th gen will have an element of all 3 reasons for change. For the past generations the competition was pretty weak in the midsize segment. I hope the 4th Gen has a compelling response to the competition for both features and price.

    We shall see.

The official press release for the '23 Tacoma lineup (SX and Chrome packages, SO Pro) was on May 17, 2022...I wonder if the '24 will be revealed somewhere around May?

Im guessing later, we saw the 2022 Tundra mule / tester running around in Feb 2021(similar to now) and it wasnt until June 2021 when we saw the full thing which was supposedly only due to a leak from an inside meeting. Guessing we got a bit.

I can see why and I would/will when I am ready for an SUV.

Earlier this week I test drove some old 4 runners for a friend that was looking for a replacement 4runner. He lives in an area with not many used ones to choose from and I am in an area that has a lot of them, so I offered to evaluate the ones he picked out and was looking at buying.

Now these were all 4th gen 4 runners with over 150K, so they were all 15/16 years old. After driving them at that age, I know why people buy them and keep them...They still drove as good if not better than my 2020 tacoma, The one he picked out drove and handled better than my 2020 tacoma and it was 15 years old. They are well built reliable SUV's for sure and I wouldn't blink to buy a new one...or a 15 year old one for that matter.

I’ll bury myself in my 2nd gen? It’s 8 years old. If it can make it a couple more years then it’s getting given to my kid as a first car and I’ll get whatever is the best available truck at that time. A 4th gen Tacoma doesn’t seem like it will be high on the list though. We’ll see.

It’s the latest version of cool. But didn’t quite hit the mark like previous efforts.

Except the only change on a 23 was a color. Instead of an entire platform

I think the new rear coils are what I am most intrigued by on the 4th gen. I'm curious to see how it pans out. Otherwise I am liking what I have seen from the Twins for the most part.

I can deal with an ugly truck, but I cannot tolerate a 4 banger. I may need to change brands after owning 14 new Tacomas/PreRunners over the years.

I may need to buy a 2023 if this is the last year for a V6 instead of waiting to replace my 2020 at the end of this year.

Like everyone else, I am awaiting the official 2024 Tacoma model announcement from Toyota.
