Cause I'm getting a bunch of other stuff from rock auto and it's cheaper to just toss everything I need together. Plus it has a pulleyand a rese

I'd rather buy one from a parts store locally.

resi and pulley aren't hard to change, than you have easy replacement if you happen to blow it

Get an OEM rack; bite the bullet so it's one and done.

As for the steering pump, rebuild it. You'll run an OEM pump and it'll be cheaper.

I don't know how they are to do on the 4I but after 1 time on the V6 it's pretty quick

I mean, it looks easily accessible.

After comparing a Land Cruiser pump rebuild and a Tacoma pump rebuild, the Tacoma looks to be 10 times easier to rebuild, and 20 times easier to replace so really anyone can do it.

I've already rebuilt this pump regretfully. And the pump I got from Miguel. I think my rack is eating the seals maybe?

Your right about OEM rack... I just don't wanna spend those dollars lol

What's wrong with the pump that warrants replacing? Either of them that is?

I'd just skip the pump, drain any and all fluid, and replace the rack (if the rack is bad).

Once you replace the rack, why not just use hydraulic fluid vs ATF?

Many parts on Toyota's are serviceable.

For many of those items, I'd rather rebuild something versus buying inferior parts and replacing the OEM part.

Pump howls and weeps fluid outta the front output seal. The rack is for sure junk, I have to add fluid more and more frequently as I neglect it. Every few weeks I have to drain the boots lol

What wt hydraulic fluid? And why that vs the ATF it asks for?

A lot of people seem to like Mobil 1 DTE 24, though there are several others out there you can use in lieu of (and way cheaper).

ATF is basically hydraulic fluid with additives and can be used interchangeably; you just don't want to use actual power steering fluid since it can ruin your seals.

As for the whining, is it only due to loss of fluid (low level) or is it also cavitating? Was chasing a power steering issue myself on the LC and about a month ago I went through replacing all my lines, and rebuilding my power steering pump.

The Frame is looking pretty rusty red, noticed that today when I sprayed it off.

More investigation to come this spring when there isn't 3 feet of snow around.

Lube King ISO 32 is like $10/gal from the farm store. Runs fine in the crawler but I wouldn't use it in a Tacoma

There's a 4Runner dude and someone I know locally that drives a Taco that both run it, for some time now.

I questioned it at first but dug more into it and found it's pretty common (last year). Ran into threads for "favorite hydraulic fluid" cause I had planned to redo my steering when I first got the LC.

Only stuck with ATF cause I have a shit ton of bottles from the Tacoma and 4Runner.
