I've been aggressively looking to buy a 2nd gen crew cab tacoma but it seems there are very few on the market ....
I came accross a 05 tacoma trd off road package with 4x4 but has 182k miles. Seller is asking $12,000
I have taken a look at this truck and it's in good shape and engine seemed to be clear of any problems and ran great.

My question is what kind of maintenance or service issues will I be running into in the next few years....

Who with a 2nd gen. Taco has this many miles.....

    Thanks for all the feedback

Personally I'd stay clear of any vehical with that kind of milage.

I own a 2005 prerunner dc with 151000 miles now and mine is running strong. I've replaced front bearings u joints a caliper and the drive belt. All in all I'm happy those things were all due for a change I just road them out as long as I could.

Personally the mileage would be no issue to me if it has been maintained well, I would however stay away from the '05 since it was the first year, but thats just me.

It has a 182k miles , I bought my 2005 Tacoma last year and it only had 48xxx miles and I ended up paying $15,000 with a $2,500 trade in on my piece of crap 1999 Tahoe.

I would consider buying it, but not for that kind of money.Maybe for $8-10K if it's in good condition otherwise. I'm a mechanic, so am not scared to do some repairs down the road if the buying price relects that, but if you will paying shop labour rate, you might want to keep looking.

depends on how many miles you drive a year and how long you would want to keep it.

i mean, cars start wearing out when you get over 200k....

Mileage would scare me for the asking price. These 2nd Gens motors doesn't hold up like the older toyota's where hitting 200K miles with little issues was the norm.

How do you know? They really haven't been out long enough to know yet. The average driver puts 15-20k miles a year on a vehicle. So your "average driver" that bought a brand new '05 in 04 would only have about 150k miles currently.

Edit: Wow just realized I typed "you're" instead of your. My bad.

Hey bud the asking price is not WAY OFF like everyone is saying, KBB and NADA puts that pickup anywhere from $10k - $12.5 with that mileage and options. If its in good driving condition, have a mechanic look it over etc. and you can talk him down in the mid $10's or at $11k you would be low balling the shit out of him at $8k thats just stupid. U can get first gens with 200k miles for $8-$9k I think its worth it, so do people that rate the selling price of these trucks :D

I was referring more towards the gadgets we have on ours that would cause more electrical issues before the actual motor giving out.

Macgyver I agree, I have a ton of miles on mine and it runs stornger then my first gen did with the same mileage. There are people that know it all though, U don't know till its at that mileage and you take care of it. They obviously aren't making new trucks "not runs as long" the whole point is to make them run longer....

I wouldnt buy it for that price. I was browsing craigslist one day and found a 06 Acess Cab with 48k for only 11,500. I wouldnt be scared with the miles but I wouldnt pay that kind of price.
