long travel or 4x4

I'm finding myself stuck, not only off road w/ 2x, but theoretically between long traveling my truck or trading for a 4x4.
Wish I would have coughed up the extra $3000 for the TRD OR w/ a transfer case back in 09 but I thought the locker would suffice and cheaper insurance rates are always a plus.

Anyway, next year I'm either going Engage or trading for a 4x4. My off road trips have been limited by the 2x, and the occasional snow trips to big bear.

Out of curiosity, what would you prefer?

Long travel 2wd or mid travel 4x4 (the mods on my truck would be transfered to the 4x4)

how bout a long travel 4x4 with an additional fabtech lift and a 3 inch body kit?

with that being said, what is your main preference for offroad? if your into desert or sand high speed bumps and jumps then you would go with long travel.

if your looking to be wheeling rocks, mud, parking lots i would say 4x4 then.

sounds like you would get more use out of a 4WD truck because you said your off road trips have been limited by 2WD

do not plan on going LT unless you have at least $5,000 to throw away... for just the front end.

I'm pretty much into both. Got a friend with a long travel nissan, then I have family and friends w/ 4x4 vehicles and I can't keep up with either one in either situation... lol I dig the rocks, mud, sand, water, all of it.

You're right. I would probably get more use out of a 4wd vehicle with LT.

I'm familiar with the expenses of long travel and how they operate as I spend some time over at DR and have a good friend w/ a custom LT nissan. LT is ridiculously expensive!

Haven't heard awesomeness regarding allpro's kit. I've had my eye on Engage since they came out. Affordable, and so far, durable.

I was just throwin this out there to see what you guys thought.

But if you think about it, trading for a new 4x4 w/ the options I want could be just as expensive.

Get both, All Pro LT.

I don't know what accounts your reading, but the AP LT kit is about as durable as it gets. TC and Camburg are also good kits, but a little wide for the trails. And Engage is, in my opinion, the least squared away of the group. They don't offer a kit that will work with four wheel drive, either.

I've been happy with my 4x4 and All Pro long travel kit. If you plan on high speed desert running then stay 2 wheel drive. If you want trails then a stock 4x4 will be better than a fully built 2 wheel drive long travel truck. Just know that the All Pro LT is not geared for desert running. You can't run a second shock either. I think it's mainly geared toward more travel on trails as apposed to jumping and flying around at 90mph through the desert.

 

my buddy has all pro with the defined SUA kit and bed cage, he can fly in the desert and crawl like a champ
