It's not thus my friend. It's poor design :annoyed:

Unlimited assets and can run a separate circuit for dash and trans communications is perhaps lazy

You don't run an entire circuit dedicated to 2 simple switches. More cost, but more importantly that many more pieces/parts to fail.

Cant speculate why they chose to use that particular ckt, but it seems to work for at least 99.9% of these trucks on the road.

this is why I have yet to test the "if you shift into reverse above 30mph it just activates the backup camera" from the tips and tricks section.

In my world you do, but I work on other electrical systems.
Costs and stuff above aren't thought about, it is what has to be done to be right, even if more parts are required.

    But that's whatever

I had a similar issue once with a 2002 ford explorer. The serpentine belt became partially frayed. I changed the belt and several days later I started having transmission issues where it would takeoff like it had a 3000rpm stall and a shift kit when shifting between gears. Took it to a trans shop, they said electrical and its going to be expensive to diagnose and fix. I took another look at it and saw where the frayed portion of the serpentine belt had slapped the insulation off of a few wires and partially unplugged a connector going to the intake/fuel injection area. taped the wires up, plugged in the connector all the way and it was fixed for another 160,000. Explorer sport had 260,000 and three fuel pumps before it rusted out so bad it was no longer worth keeping (had given to my dad around 160K). Never had another trans related issue. Weird electronic gremlins suck but great ending to this one. Thanks for following up with the good news!

Anyone willing to remove the same fuse out of their 3rd gen to see what happens out of curiosity? Lol.... Same result?

Wonder what engineer labeled that fuse "backup lamp" as it does crazy things to the tranny.
I can see the prnd light not lighting but not the mechanical issues.
Lesson learned check all fuses when having an issue and don't rely on labeling.

But it didn’t cause mechanical issues. When the ECM does not know the gearshift position, due to no inputs from the range sensor, it does not operate the shift solenoids in the transmission valve body as needed for smooth shifts. But it will still shift, albeit harshly and likely limited to 4th gear.

It’s not just a 3rd gen thing either. Pull the same fuse out of a first gen with an auto and give it a whirl.

I would at first think that is a mechanical issue and not a fuse.
Had a Jeep with a tranny mechanically going out and acted just like that. Dropped the pan and shavings all over.

Oh mine can laugh, glare, and then some. Older lady so she's had plenty of time (both in general and having spent 20 years with my stupid ass) to hone her craft.
