What kind of reaction are you expecting when you come on to a Tacoma enthusiast forum and bitch about Tacoma’s? If you don’t like your Tacoma sell it and move on, it makes no difference to us. You’re not going to get a bunch of support from most folks here if you’re not trying to solve a problem. I’m sure there are places that will coddle your feelings and tell you your special, maybe go find one of those places.

My original post was asking if there was a way to turn off the gas/brake warning, and explaining why. I wasn't looking for support, asking people to write letters, demanding a recall... just a simple question.

Any MENTION of a possible problem with a Tacoma is a direct attack on some peoples' manhood. You can go back to complimenting each other's start button trim rings now.

Except it isn't a problem with the Tacoma, it's you. Try that behavior on any other truck, and you're still going to roll back. Why, because it isn't Ford's, Chevrolets, Honda's, or Dodges faulty vehicles... It's you.

You asked how to fix it and you got 15 different rephrases of "learn to drive."

You choosing not to listen... That's still on you.

Both of my trucks are manual transmission, and I can drive on hills with no problem. Berating people and referring to people as “Fan Bois” multiple times may not be the best way to make friends around here. Have you looked in the owners manual? It’s a book about 1-1/4” thick, located in the glove box. It will give you lots of information about how to operate your vehicle.

For the record I don’t have a start button… manuals don’t come with them.

    Hope your day gets better.

But I mean, you could just quickly move your foot from brake to gas pedal, takes a quarter of a second? There is no problem whatsoever.

I do it all the time in my heavy 2500 Chevy express.

I really don’t get this AT hill assist complaint.

I'm morbidly curious if someone goes on a biker forum, what do they blame on hill holding problems then? Their boots?

I'm definitely a Redwing fanboii, you got me there.

A hill assist system that allows the vehicle to roll backwards is shit. The Tacoma system is so bad to call it shit disrespects actual shit.

    Step away from the edge.

Yep, it's just me. It's a wonderful system.

"Funny you're reporting this too. On my 19 I have never experienced what I would expect when I heard "hill start assist." the truck will roll back and the brakes start going nuts...sounds like CC in slow mode. I never trust it anyways as it lets you roll back too far and doesn't actually fully stop you, just slow you down."

    Bye now.

Hhmmm, strange. Not true in my truck as I've been heel toeing for the last 6 years. Throttle doesn't cut out on me.

This happens to me every time I come to a stop on a hill also. I’ve definitely had the reaction speed to move my foot from the brake to the accelerator in time, but she always yells at me and makes this horrible noise that freaks me out every time haha. Especially freaky in the rain. I’ll have to try the hand brake technique, because good ol’ fashioned speed or trying to hold the brake while accelerating hasn’t worked for me either.

From what ive read, there is no hill assist on the OR. I've tried different ways letting off the brakes and hitting the gas and it's always the same outcome - start rolling back and then the clicking noises and traction light blinking. Such a disappointment.

My TRD Sport manual has hill assist and it works fine. I wouldn't expect hill assist on a vehicle with an automatic, it doesn't need it.

    PS......Whats a start button?

Curious, does this mean when wheeling offroad and up a hill or up and over an obstacle, 3rd gen autos with hill assist can't 2-pedal?

I find this thread super confusing. I have an OR with a 6mt and so I don't have hill assist. However, I previously owned a SR5 with an auto which I think should have had hill start assist, but I never noticed it activating even when wheeling on steep hills (> 20% incline). I also never had any trouble starting on hills.

I don't understand why a truck with an automatic transmission needs hill start assist, because the torque converter doesn't allow them to roll backwards except maybe in extreme conditions.

OP, are you putting the transmission into neutral when stopped on the hill? If not, how long are you waiting to press the throttle after releasing the brake?

Also, why are you pushing the brake and throttle at the same time? I've never found a need to do that, except to do a "brake stand".

I'm also confused on how hill start assist behaves. I read some comments saying it stops the truck completely and other comments saying it only slows the truck down. There are also differing accounts about how far the truck needs to roll back before it activates. I'm left confused.

All it does is hold your truck in position while you let the clutch out. It's not necessary but I'll admit it's a nice feature.
