Beats me. I’m still trying to ID ducks so it could be something but I figured it was a hen mallard.

Sounds fun. I’ve never landed a deer, but I plan to make a good effort this year(first year with a bow and rifle). public land CA deer hunting is rough so we will see. I plan to do some turkey this spring. And I can’t wait to get back after ducks. Ordered a shotkam and plan to get a new shotgun to replace the ol pump. I want to be ready to get LIMITs next season

Anyone here shooting BOSS? I sat in on their Live Stream yesterday. They have a new load coming out in limited production with some new buffer and bio-wad. Supposedly over 86% pattern density at 40 yards. Also they spoke at length about the duplex #3/5 load. Sounds like the pattern density between that and the #4 shot is neck and neck so you can’t go wrong with either. They kind of dispelled some assumptions on the duplex load and shot string inefficiencies. Either way, go ahead and get an order in if you are interested - https://bossshotshells.com/products/project-warchief

Sounds just like me. I got a new gun in order (dang…another gun). You’re spot on with deer hunting in CA. Check your zone stats in the big game digest and look at harvest data for rifle and archery. Some zones are more challenging and physically demanding but, your biggest challenge is going to be finding deer where others aren’t. Find out where the popular spots are and don’t go there. Don’t overlook small chunks of public near private or popular roads.

Down in San Diego, turkeys are nearly impossible on public but it can be done. I was able to bag a double beard last spring and an archery doe and rifle buck all on public. I couldn’t be more excited now that I rounded out my year with a good time hunting ducks.

Good time to pick up some Sitka gear if you run it! 20% off sale makes it a little easier bite the bullet. :spending:

Woah, that’s unlike them. I’m surprised. I’m sure they will be restocked after the sales are over :bananadead: They will be my next set of waders, hoping to get another season or two out of my set now.

Yea super disappointed to have an open ended response like that. I was actually in Bozeman a few months ago and stopped in the shop. Pretty cool setup they got but I didn’t even think to ask about waders while I still had a deer tag to fill. I imagine once draw season rolls around they’ll be pushing waterfowl gear not long after.

I did get a response back from Duck Camp on their waders which seem like great quality and a little less expensive. They said they’d be restocked around July.

Yeah I’ve looked at theirs too, they look nice. Not sure if they have a warrenty program like Sitka does. I ended up picking up a Dakota vest and grinder half zip for early season waterfowl. And a pair of traverse pants and heavyweight performance hoody in subalpine for turkey season. All of it arrived and man it always feels so quality. Tossing my old cheap stuff.

Sounds like a great buy. I haven’t taken the Sitka plunge myself (running mostly Kuiu or firstlite). But, I did get the feel for the quality at the shop. I can say that the quality of stone glacier and Duckworth layers are quality. For rifle deer I’ll be rocking that combo. Can’t say enough of the Duckworth wool (I think it’s called the powder hoody).

Nice. I’d love to get a full setup but I’m hesitant if the waders won’t be available anytime soon. One thing I like is the warranty on their gear. But, then again I try not to buy stuff just on the warranty claims alone. It’s nice to have but it’s not really a factor that I consider until after I’ve decided between 1 or 2 options I’m sold on for the finish, fit and function.

I’ve logged few hours of the worst weather/rain I’ve ever been out in in my delta wading jacket, and when I got back to my truck, my base layers were completely dry. Thing is a beast

Anyone here ever hunt public in Missouri? I get out there every year for some deer hunting but last trip out I had wood ducks around while I was in the treestand. This time I’m bringing my shotgun and my bow.

Anyone here care to give me a quick rundown of how to get on at any SoCal big bodies of water for ducks? I have a small skiff and or tandem hobie kayak I can use. Access to any decoys I could need. I just don’t know how the process works to get a blind or access to hunt the lakes or salton/ wister areas?
