So a lot of my apps are crashing, or simply failing to open with varying error messages.
I've tried clearing caches, uninstalling updates, etc, etc.
I'm about to update the head unit with the latest firmware from Dasaita.

On to the question at hand...
What settings, data, steering wheel control keys, etc., can I expect to lose in the update process?

    Thanks in advance.

PS I realize this thread is for Joying head units, but I think the Dasaita is similar enough that the answer will be the same or similar.

You will lose the steering wheel controls for sure, just go into the car settings and select the correct canbus (for me it was rav4, but I have a joying from when it was not compatible with tacomas)

    Ok, thanks.
For some reason, if I'm remembering correctly, the steering wheel controls were a pain in the ass to figure out on the Dasaita, but it's been a while and could have been a myriad of other things.

Try to figure it out before you do a reset, but yeah, first time I did it on mine I spent like 30 minutes looking for the right settings until I figured out the right settings dont exist.

Joying 10.1 install... microphone has lots of static on bluetooth calls (only heard by whoever I'm calling) and is basically unusable. Anyone experiencing this? Any solutions? I'm sure there is a thread somewhere but I haven't found it yet! Thanks in advance.

    Things I've tried:
    1) can not find a mic volume setting (there is a bluetooth setting but it has no effect)
    2) relocating the mic away from vents and my phone didn't help.
    3) mic connection is solid with no adapters in line.
    4) using an Android galaxy note 10.
    5) tested the mic with a recording app installed on the joying unit and it played back clear, which leads me to believe it's the connection between my phone and the joying HU.

    1. Have you tried this using the build in Andriod Auto app, or are you just going purely by a bluetooth connection?
    2. If not, try the AA app and see if there's static.
    3. If yes, or if #2 doesn't help, plug your phone into one of the USB ports, and test again.
    4. If still static, try a different location, or if you have one relatively available, a different mic all together:
(Some of these are cheap enough that you could grab one and not care if it didn't work or just return it: Amazon Microphones)

Location suggestion: I've got mine installed in the upper right corner of my dash cluster. It's a way from the vents, potential road noise entering from the roof, and I currently don't have issues with my Joying 11.6" (I'd be surprised if they used different for different units)

I use S9 . I routed the mic to the rear view mirror. I dont have any sound issues with mic.
I use Assistant alot for directions and Spotify, taking meeting calls, etc w/out any sound quality issues.
AA version on my cell is 8.7.630264

You want a long term review, I have had mine the longest of anyone on this site. Mine is still running perfectly, even being the first generation of this headunit and not even designed for the tacoma (Joying added tacoma to the compatibility list after they saw my tweets where I installed it in a tacoma, they even used my pictures for awhile). Pretty much everything still works as it should and have yet to need to fix or replace anything.

It looks like people are buying the scosche trim kit, but I don’t see where it even needs trim. Does it not fill in the entire stock HU spot?

Also, are we able to use the AUX video RCA to use as a front cam?

Lastly, no issues using my existing 5 ch amp that powers my doors and sun right?

Sorry, I’m not audio savvy, this will be my first go at installing.

We use the scosche kit for the mounting brackets, we throw away the trim part. Its not needed to use the scosche kit, but it makes it a bit more secure. You do need to modify the mounting parts to fit the headunit though.

I have not tried, but others use their anytime front/rear cameras with this headunit just fine

No problems using your current amp, you just might need to run RCA cables to it instead of line level (if thats how you have it setup) I am running 9 channels worth of amps with my joying.

Simple enough, from what I understand we can download several different launching apps for the interface. What is the most user friendly? Also-- no XM capability right?

I use "car launcher" but most of the apps have a free version to try, then you pay for the real version.

There is no native way to run XM radio on the headunit, I think there is a XM app for android, but I am unsure how well it even works.

Appreciate the help-- I am just going to transfer my XM account to my wife's car. I will try the app, but like others, I use it most when going out of cell service. Losing XM is a bummer, but looks like the pros outweigh the cons.

I ordered the joying camera-- anyone else running a second camera? Issues or tips?

So I did a deep dive on this since I hope to get the time to install mine either this weekend or the next. From what I gathered coming through 30+ pages is that in order to retain the factory GPS, have a sturdier mounting position, retain factory USB, utilize the 2nd USB on the back of the joying easily, get OBD2 intel, annnnnnnnnnnd utilize my existing amp.... this is all I need haha
    upload_2023-2-17_11-38-14.jpg

I also started a word document that compiles all the helpful hints and tricks to this fickle unit that I will put up that answer all the common questions that myself and others have asked a 1000 times. I will post it after my install as it is still a work in progress.

Figure I would just post what I have and update this post along the way. These were taken from previous posts in this thread and compiled to what I believe will help ME during install and hiccups. Hopefully they save someone else some time from digging through this thread. At least half of the info comes from @5nahalf , so thank you for all the time you have poured into this.

    Trouble Shooting:

OBD reader that works for torque pro is ELM327, and some higher end ones actually might not work.

    Associated pins
    -Factory Settings = 3368
    -UI = 8086
    -VLINK = 0000 or 1234

Disable the accessibility button if you are having problems with the "overlapping circle"

Restart a unit a couple times if you are having issues entering your google password

If having fob issues, such as trouble connecting or doors not unlocking when put in park, try unlocking with physical key, and then locking with fob to work again. If this doesn't work, maybe try unplugging/disabling antenna.

If youtube is randomly turning on, Set the unit to open Navigation (or whatever app you choose) 5 seconds after power up. Open the recent app window and clear all. The unit likes to open whatever was last open. If that's YouTube, it will open that every time. Even if it does open YouTube, the nav app (set to Google maps in my case) opens after 5 seconds.

    Sub/Amp:

Since that unit has RCA inputs on it, you can just run RCA cables from the back of the headunit to the sub. Then just run your power and ground for it and hook up the remote turn on lead (blue wire on the back of the headunit)

    Carplay:

Zlink app runs automatically unless the head unit reboots itself, it remains in memory and attempts to connect with phone each and every time the truck starts. If the head unit reboots, the radio automatically launches.
The process is so automatic that for the few times I want to listen to the radio, sometimes the Zlink app takes over and mutes the radio.

OK, I figured this out. I went to Settings > User > Application setting. From there, all the apps are set to Off position. I simply turned the Car Link app to "On" so it will automatically start when the truck is started.

Wireless car play uses a direct WiFi connection that is why you cannot use wifi and CarPlay at the same time.

It takes about 12 secs to get to the CarPlay screen when I start the truck.

One glitch being that sometimes I need to change the Bluetooth source on my phone to be CarPlay and not android connection.

    Netflix:

UPDATE: I figured out how to install Netflix onto the Joying stereo. You can Google the phrase "Netflix apkmirror 4.16.1 build 15145". Then click on the link to the apkmirror website. Download version 4.16.1 and then install. After you open Netflix, you will get a screen that asks if you want to update to the latest version - hit Cancel. If you update to latest version, it wont work. Then log into Netflix and you are all set.

Also make sure you turn on video while moving option (not sure what its called or where it is, but there is a option that blocks video from playing unless in park)

    Front Cam:

Everythings installed and working great. Now I have a question I hope someone knows. On the instructions it says to cut the white wire if using front facing camera. Why? It seems to work perfectly fine uncut. I dont want to cut it and mess it up

I have this model: JY-UQS07N4G-H with anytime camera. I make sure the "front video" app is selected and then I hit "front camera" switch. Mine works every time
If it works fine, dont cut it.

On mine the image was mirrored such that it would work if it was a reversing camera. I had to snip the white so that i.e. the stuff to the left of the car showed up on screen as being to the left of the car, not to the right with the camera facing forward. If things show up correctly, Don't snip anything. Maybe the static guidelines wire but thats personal preference.

    upload_2023-2-17_12-32-6.jpg

    Car Settings:

“It's been a minute, but I recall there being a "Vehicle Settings" button, that allowed you to change things like what happens to the locks when shifting from Park or Drive, or adjust the beep loudness when locking the truck, and other similar settings.”

Joying actually gives you that function still. Its under "Car Info." Look for the icon, its not in settings. All those settings are there.

I previously purchased Carista to change those functions, now they are Free99 with the deck.

    https://caristaapp.com/vehicles/toyota/tacoma/3rd-gen

Firmware update: (video link on post 1132, page 57)

Takes about 15 min—unzip the file onto a usb, then plug USB into dash then when its done it will be back to normal. Your steering wheel controls wont work, and your apps will be gone along with all your settings. So make sure you remember where everything was set.

When I do updates, I turn the ign on, put in the drive then leave the truck and let the truck turn its self off after 15 minutes.

    Here is the upgrade link.https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ALKIv59cLyg5H66ioGXLP_EhidSms8ba/view?usp=sharing
    Upgrade steps:
    1. Download and unzip this file from your computer
    2. Copy all files in the unzipped folder to your USB drive, please format your USB drive on your computer first
    3. Insert the USB drive to the unit
    4. It will update automatically
    5. Re-select back to the previous canbus protocol after the upgrade.

When installing the update, you dont have to redownload any apps, but it will reset all system settings. So your steering wheel controls wont work along with a few other system things. You will have to go back into car settings and select a car (tacoma is not listed) I picked a rav4 and it works.

Q: “Do I need to extract all files to USB drive”

A: You'll download the update files which will be in a zipped folder. Extract the contents of that folder to a fat32 formatted USB drive and then plug the drive into the head unit. It will recognize the update files and automatically reboot and install. Best to have the truck running for this in case it takes awhile.

    upload_2023-2-17_12-32-58.jpg

    Carplay:

Q: “Anyone know if you can force start CarPlay on the start?”

A: I haven't been able to figure out how to auto-start CarPlay. I have to push the CarPlay button and it usually loads in about 10 secs. Not a big deal, but would be really nice to have option for it to auto start.

I figured out my connection issue - the stereo doesn't recognize my iPhone hotspot as being "in range". I have to go into iPhone settings and turn off then back on the hot spot button. I also have to go to Wi-Fi settings in stereo and go to saved connections and then push Connect. Its a pain, but I will be using CarPlay 95% of the time so not a deal breaker.

I might try to remove my iPhone from Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on the stereo and then re-add it (start the process of connecting my iPhone from scratch) to see if that fixes the issue.

INSTALL: (Youtube video on post 1094 on page 55)

~More details on page 6 of this thread~

Install is relatively easy, and the tips from this group are SUPER helpful. Before removing OEM radio, I connected the wire for radio antenna to back of Joying stereo and connected yellow RCA backup camera cable to yellow IN cable on the stereo after labeling the 2 white connectors that wouldn't be used in the install. (pics starting on page 6 of this thread)

Rear Cam Hookup: One of yellow RC connectors with Toyota harness. Test it with the ignition on and in R.

Q:“I am using the stock mount with the (4) 10mm bolts and the (2) 8mm bolts and trimmed tabs on the bezel, but i still cant get the bezel to stay snapped. The top keeps popping out....any ideas on what im doing wrong?”
A: Did you trim the backside of the bezel? There are little support tabs on the backside that need to be trimmed. There are 2 on the bottom and I think 2 on the top. If you remove the radio and push it into the bezel you should see the parts that need trimming. I can see in your last picture that the radio is not going into the bezel, so thats why it keeps popping out.

    upload_2023-2-17_12-35-0.jpg

    Tabs to be trimmed:
    upload_2023-2-17_12-34-37.jpg

Still not flush: Unbolt the radio from the dash, then push it into the bezel. Then clip the bezel with the radio already pressed in to the dash. The radio wont be bolted down, but it stays in place just fine.

    Temp adjust:

The following is what I did to switch C to F for temp. Go to settings app (my apps look this way as I use the AGAMA launcher). Go into Factory (password is 3368), then select original car agreement (you will see my vehicle selection another line down was toyota camry). Once in the original car agreement screen you should be able to scroll down to temperature unit switch. If you don't see it when you open the screen scroll down as these menus are often several pages long.

I installed my HU yesterday and was way more straightforward than anticipated. I didn’t end up using any of the adapters (gps, usb extension, factory usb) or the scosche mount. The gps adapter that I purchased didn’t get any satellites (as per the receiver), but the supplied one did. After plugging everything in, the OEM USB/aux input still doesn’t work though, so I haven’t returned anything yet. I ran the GPS antenna up the driver side A-pillar and tucked it into the headliner, it has a decent magnet in it and should stay hidden. The unit came with two USB extensions that I ran down the center console so they are out of the way, but still accessible. The unit is only being held in by two screws, but fit is snug and looks like it isnt going anywhere. Nice to save a $100 on the add ons that I thought I needed.

Wireless Apple CarPlay was great but seemed to not connect for some unknown reason, I didn’t have free time to troubleshoot, so I will revisit that today hopefully. Also my apps screen shrunk to super small icons… not sure what I did, anyone else have that issue?

I don’t see an App Store of any kind, am I downloading the apps via Chrome? I need to get a better interface asap, suggestions?

I know this is an old post, but I have the same issue with these small icons— did you figure it out?
