I was wondering if anyone has the AFE Rock Basher exhaust system on their Tacoma or has heard it in person. It’s hard to tell the loudness from a video. I’m trying to find a nice deep rumble under $500

Magnuson TVS1900 Supercharger with 87mm pulley, Catted OVTune dumptubes, Doug Thorley 2.5in y-pipe, custom mufflers, 76mm Tundra throttle body, 5.29 Yukon gears, JamesT custom fuel rails, Yotawerx 87mm tune, Eibach Pro Truck Stage 2 suspension. And some other stuff.
I have that exhaust on my truck. That exhaust is very loud at high RPMs. In low RPMs it sounds nice. I had to install a second high flow muffler in series with it to compensate for how loud it was in high RPMs.

Also the turn down contributes to it being louder as well.

Though that might just be due to my setup. Full exhaust replacement, OV Tune catted downpipes and 2.5 inch pipes all the way back with the secondary cats removed.

I went with the MBRP turndown. It drones a bit around 1200 RPM, but overall I like it. It has a nice sound on cold start, but I also love hearing the exhaust of whatever vehicle I'm driving. Here's a video from the manufacturer. In person it sounds a bit deeper than that video.

Edit: I primed and painted mine with high-temp paint prior to installing it. Keep in mind, it's a V6 so it's only gonna sound so deep lol.

im spooked by exhausts like that or the oem chopped exhaust because the fumes seem like they would stay under the trucks bed

If I were stuck in a mud hole I would worry about that. But stuck in traffic I haven't even noticed the smell of exhaust. And when driving it isn't even a concern.

I run the borla type S and love it. Nice rumble and makes some sound when you get on it, but no drone or buzz at cruising speed either around town or on the highway.

Had an mbrp for 3 years and hated it after a year. Droned like a mofo and rusted bad after 2 years.

Did you leave it as bare metal? I can definitely see why people don't like it (noise-related), but that's why I like it :rofl:I'm also already hard of hearing so it doesn't bug me too much.

I had that exhaust. I'm not a big fan of aFe. They charge premium prices for a lesser product. I only got it because at the time they were the only company selling a short-style exhaust.

It worked. I thought the sound was garbage, but then again, I haven't heard a single exhaust for this truck that sounded decent. It wasn't too loud with the windows up, but it would get a tad drone-y on the highway.

My biggest disappointment was the aging of the metal. There wasn't any rust that I remember, but I could tell that the stainless wasn't as quality as other vendors. Maybe the welds weren't holding up that great. I remember getting under the truck and being displeased with the appearance of everything, at any rate. I did wheel the truck a lot, so it could be different for other folks. Borla for example, makes a significantly better product. I finally broke down and spent the money on one of their systems for a vehicle. I have to say, I was impressed. Even got a free ball cap.

After this exhaust system and another I have on a different vehicle, I wouldn't spend the money on another aFe product.

I had a rock basher for exactly a day. I thought it would be similar to the TRD, anything over 2k drones bad. Went straight back to stock. Maybe I have a low tolerance for loud exhaust.
