The only WWII stories I have is that my father, who was too old, was a Foreman in a factory making 500lb bomb casings, and my older brother was a Merchant Marine in the Pacific. Nothing heroic, and when it was my turn to serve, I got the Cold War years. My son also served in between the shooting wars, his major military action being to roll over a Humvee he and his friends 'borrowed' one night.

Ha! Small world indeed. I sent that information to the current owner to see what he thinks. Maybe we can close a loop or two for him regarding his airplane's provenance!

You all writing about your families' WWII adventures made me think about my dad, who passed in 2020.

Dad enlisted in the Navy when he was 17, wanted to be a flyboy but his eyes weren't good enough. He was smart though, so they put him in the radio/electronics path and sent him hither and yon. He fixed avionics on airplanes. He was at the tail end of the war and never saw any real action, but he did get to go to Panama and several other cool spots. He liked to say that the most danger he ever faced in the Navy was falling off a barstool.

When he got out he signed up for two things: college and National Guard, only it wasn't called that back then. He was on the GI Bill, without which he would never have been able to afford college. His professors said they really enjoyed the GI's in their classrooms because they were actually there to learn, not to dodge the draft! He made a good career out of his education and provided well for his family. I miss him. I miss mom too.

Dad had a friend who was a paratrooper and was dropped in behind the German lines during the Normandy invasion on D-Day. As far as I know he never talked about what he experienced, not even to dad. He was a sweet guy and I think it was more than he wanted to deal with, so he just didn't talk about it.

    Morning porch folks :hattip:.
After reading posts of loved ones and family friends from WWII, I was remembering my trips to the Normandy coast and the American Cemetery. Someday I want to visit Pearl Harbor to pay my respects as well.
Have a great day folks and be safe.

Yeah, it doesn't happen overnight though. The disintegration of customer service decency is the byproduct of the technological revolution it seems like. And....here comes the AI/ChatGPT.

    Morning all:

The key word there is "ALMOST", either you do, or you don't!

Just read where ESPN is considering making the Superbowl pay per view, NBD, go right ahead, I know I won't be paying to watch it, I'm already paying enough for cable TV.

Good morning. Just checking in and doings me reading. Travling, so far, has been uneventful. Lots of truck traffic on I95 last Tuesday. Beautiful weather in Clearwater, FL.

:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/would-be-charles-atlases. I never did much gym work, always preferred being outside. Lately though I'm honestly not doing much of anything besides turning into a turnip! It's a wet day here, supposed to clear up and finally cool back down into winter-like temperatures a bit later in the day. I keep waiting to hear about the March blizzard that will make up for all of this mild weather...

I have taxes to muddle through; I can only work on them for so long before I go cross-eyed, so I'll probably quit that job and go play in the garage this afternoon.

I sent that information along to the current owner. He was thrilled to get it, and did some more research on his own online as well as in the logbooks that came with the airplane. Thanks very much more sharing that! It was greatly appreciated.

In my 60’s I went from 6 pack abs to keg abs. Much easier to maintain my keg. Don’t have to exercise and you eat as much as you want.
(In reality I work out about 6 days a week but doubt I’ll ever see 6 pack abs again)

Morning all. Tore my shoulder up again but not sure if it's from exercise...too many pushups yesterday....or more from moving two patients on stretchers, one better than 300lbs. I've got firefighting class tomorrow, moving hoses and throwing ladders. I am not looking forward to it and currently have my doubts about finishing the class. Hitting the advil, cbd oil and hopefully giving it a rest, pending calls.

Falcon Flight is a local group that Lowell was a member of. Two of the guys live here in the neighborhood (40XS) so if he ever finds a way to Texas tell him to stop by. Stu still heads up Falcon Flight and drills precision into the team. http://www.falconflight.aero/Pilots.html

I climbed into the RV4. We couldn't close the canopy. 6'3" with short legs (32" inseam) so all torso. The side-by-side RV7 was also too cramped. I fit in an RV8 (tandem) but my wife didn't like sitting behind me, hence finally building the Bearhawk 4 Place.

Meanwhile, I'm looking at little off-road teardrops. Nothing more than a bed with an outdoor kitchen. I'd like to add a new bumper and winch, but still keep under gross rating. Hence a teardrop for the camping gear.

I built myself a couple of campers. The last a little camper from the frame of an old "ham can" type teardrop. ('61 Cardinal) I've gone through a lot of trailers trying to find something that fills all requirements and nothing fits. One of my least important requirements is size. But one of my most important is that I don't want to tow.

So we've recently been looking into "vanlife"... as in building a van into a camper. We bought a 2011 Chevy 15 passenger van and are in the process of putting a queen size mattress, toilet, fridge, and propane stove in it, as well as storage.

Planning a maiden voyage to Chaco Canyon and Taos. Then the big trip to Glacier, across to Seattle to see the Space Needle, and down highway one along the coast to SF and back through Reno on Highway 50... a stop at home and then on to Washington DC on 50 to see the Smithsonian. Maybe up through Vermont and then down through Nashville, and then New Orleans. I'd like to kayak the Okefenokee Swamp. It all depends on how comfortable we are in the van... so we'll see.
