So I have an 03 3.4L 4wd (manual) and was having some acceleration issues on the way home today. I’ve never had any problems with the the pedal or anything to do with the acceleration of the vehicle prior to this. I’m gaining speed, in fourth, getting good rpm’s in my gear and looking for the next, all of a sudden there’s a minuscule “pop” and the feeling goes out of my accelerator pedal. I’m losing speed and I finally jam the pedal and got some rpm’s outta it. Problem is, the acceleration doesn’t come on till the pedal is over halfway depressed. I pulled over at the gas station and I was able to get response out of the accelerator, but still only very deep within the pedal stroke. I was able to get the truck home, and took a look underneath at my pedal assembly. Couldn’t get a good picture of what was going on under there, but it looks like the end tip of the cable assembly gave out. I attached a pic of what I think failed. Also, the cruise control doesn’t work now.
Anyone got any advice? I’m looking at buying a new cable assembly. Anything else I need to be looking at?

Take a look under the hood at the throttle body cable linkages. Does anything appear overly loose? You don't want much slack.

those cables are basically the same thing as brake cables on bikes. they eventually fray and break after a while. i would just replace the cable.

Back in the day.....old clutch cables would fail in single digit temps.......crispy........end nuts would shatter....

    Time for a new cable.

You might be able to get more throttle by adjusting the cable even more .

look close to make sure the fire wall has not cracked.

    Good luck!

Been looking all around but I can’t pinpoint one for my exact model.

Turns out, the little black rubber bushing at the end of the cable (accelerator side) was destroyed. I’m not sure what that part does… think it might soften the touch of the pedal.
Boy o’ boy, that job sucked. Only took about two hours total, but you gotta get all weird and upside down to get that damn firewall bracket off. What a pain.
Anyways, just wanna say thanks to everyone for their inputs and insights. U guys rock, so does this site.
