Cut a triangle piece to help with clamping for the top. 2 loose flat for sides and open triangle for the bottom. Its a little tricky but once you figure it out its easier to visualize

I'd say big enough to fit an 8x10 photo. Rest of the dimensions could be based off of that.
What are the wood species options?

Great question. Here's the species I've worked with before:

pine, poplar, cedar, oak, walnut, maple, curly maple, hickory, purpleheart, cherry

The mill I go to has a pretty good selection, but they don't actually have a list anywhere. If there's something you like not mentioned above, I'll see if they have it.

I'd say hickory or walnut wood look pretty cool.

Good choice. The hickory I got this week is gorgeous! I'll probably try to get started next week. How deep would you like the compartment?

Probably gonna spend the afternoon working on my space in the greenhouse to make it more workable. So not much project progress today aside from oiling and drying.

I use one (meter) for my firewood if I’m not sure. No more than 20% for that

Awesome! 2" or 2.5" should be sufficient.

Headed to the shop shortly, but before I do, here's 3 boards making their debut today. The mini heart, the night & day board, and the border board. :woot:
