Hey all, I purchased an o4 4x4 tranny for my 01 prerunner as I am trying to do a 4x4 conversion, I noticed that the throttle control line was absent from the 04 tranny and found to my horror that it’s not compatible with my truck… I noticed that there’s a black plug where the throttle line should be, has anyone successfully swapped connectors and been able to use the o4 tranny on there older trucks?

From what I understand you can do a valve body swap. @Lfaub03 did a good write-up on it here.

I’d proceed with the rest of your parts acquisition with caution. Maybe read a few more write-ups and build threads. There are other differences between 2.7/I4 and 3.4/V6 trucks. As well as transfer case compatibility between manual and auto trucks.

You have a rare 2003-2004 ETCS-I transmission. Very hard to find, issue is that it lacks the kickdown cable. I’ve heard the valve bodies could be swapped

Gotcha, I can’t add the kickdown cable to the ETCS-I from my 01 tranny? There’s a plug where it should go.

Read the valve body swap thread I linked above.

He was was able to use a kickdown cable transmission with his 2003 with the ETCS-I. It works both ways and you should be able to use the 04 transmission with your 01.

This is just me but, unless that transmission was in great shape, you could fetch more coin than it'd cost to buy a 2002 and older model.

It’s in super good shape, it only has 130k miles on it, plus I’m in Montana and very few people have the 03-04 tacos with auto trannys up here, I had it listed for three weeks and had no offers.

No problem. Definitely pay attention to the torque converter discussion in that thread too. Whole can of worms if you start swapping them around.

Why not just manual swap it if you're gonna go through all the work of doing a 4WD conversion?

Because I can’t find any manual transmissions close by and I’m out of cash, I plan on it eventually though.
