We do have OO and I usually use it at night for overnight burns when it's available.
Doesn't come in too often. More locust & varieties of oak available, also cherry, mulberry, tulip to name a few.

Put this Empire in last July as part of our home renovations . Three cube box allows for longer burn times.
Zero clearance high efficiency flush mount fireplace, double blowers, .99 gph more than 4 1/2 times cleaner than the old ZC. Cold air intake. Unit puts out a huge amount of heat. So far longest burn was 10 hours with a combo of OO & oak, three chunks with outside temps in the minus single digits.

Was a bear getting it up 2 flights of stairs. Luckily the installer had an electric motor dolly that lifted the 605 lb unit up one stair at a time.

I put the blowers on a rheostat & bypassed the snap disc altogether.
Cement board extends several feet out on each side & nearly up to the ceiling.
Mantel is above manufacturers recommendation by 9 inches.

Am looking to install another ZC unit in our retirement home in No. Idaho. My wife cannot abide by a free standing stove & doesn't want a masonry /stone fireplace with an insert.

 

Those electric dollys are the cat's ass! My last stove in 2009 came down the basement stairs on one. The local rentall has one (he's also a stove dealer) so I rented it for $100 to move out 6 x 450 pound batteries. Not possible without it, and worth the cost of renting. The first stove guy said his cost somewhere around $5K, so he no lend or rent.

I’m just enjoying watching the stove cranking. Damn it’s good to have wood heat again. With the warm weather we’ve had and what is forecasted there may not be many more chances to have it going until late fall. It’s a bummer but Atleast I have it now.

Just a reminder when tossing firewood in the back of your trucks if you don't have a headache rack... if on a hill, park facing uphill if you can. Otherwise, be really careful, as log rounds will get ya pretty easily...



You can see there aren't many logs in there, but one took a bounce on the steep slope and hit the pillar and took out 2 of the 3 windows.

Rain was forecasted later in the week, so I buttoned it up with a quick fix.



And since cardboard doesn't resist water too well, it got a coat of black paint. That also helped make it less obvious until I got it fixed.




Got a new rear window through insurance. Safelite did the work and had the new window in in 1 hour after they told me it'd be a most of the day affair. I used the Safelite Auto Glass, but really should have checked into what extra out of pocket I would have had to pay for OEM Toyota glass. OEM is most always better and in this case I think that holds true. (Sorry, no picture of the new glass) it looks fine, but the window doesn't slide as good as the old one and there's an opaque rectangular sticker under the latch, a decent size bigger than the latch, which looks janky IMO. Oh well. Happy Presidents' Day y'all!

Has anyone ever installed their own liner? I'm pretty mechanically inclined and videos seem to make it look easy of course. I just wonder what to do at the old fireplace damper door area.

 

Is this for a fireplace insert?
I pulled a flexible ss liner for my new insert a couple months ago. I had to cut the damper and a bunch of firebrick and mortar out of the throat of my fireplace to clear the liner and flue adapter. Let’s just say there’s a reason the insert came with a metal tag indicating the fireplace had been modified to where it would never function again as a regular fireplace lol. Oh well, if I get tired of messing with firewood I can still put a gas insert in there.
Then I had to bust out the old terra cotta liner to make room for the new liner and insulation

I also rented a pulling cone from them.
I used Thermix brand pour in insulation, the other option is to wrap the liner with armored insulation prior to pulling.
Then I had to recess and run power to a receptacle in the back of the fireplace for the blower.
There was no way I could fit the elbows necessary in my little fireplace so I went with this to hook the liner to the inserthttps://www.rockfordchimneysupply.com/off-set-box.php
So it wasn’t easy or cheap but 10/10 I would do it again with the improvement in comfort and economy over the propane furnace that used to run seemingly nonstop this time of year

Nice. It should be a similar process as I went through but you’ll need to decide how much modification to your fireplace is acceptable. Like I said, mine will never be useable as a wood burning fireplace again lol

 

Yeh I found the old damper a few years back from the previous owner and the damper frame hasn't been modified. The videos though never show how to seal the liner at the damper. Dunno why. But I put fireproof wool insulation around the pipe that is there.

with my leer cap on I have 3 windows to protect when I'm moving firewood . I cut some plywood pieces that fit the shape of the cap / cab window and side windows and wedge them in there when I'm moving wood . They store beside the woodshed when not in use

 

Good call. I have a Trakrak mounted to the bed on each end. I'm thinking something similar to your idea is simple and cost effective. Cut some plywood 2" wider than the width of the rack and attach with u-bolts. Either that or be extra careful....
