It's a habit of mine to always look at peoples lugs at stop lights or really just where ever. That old Jeep- guy was super proud-and he should be..she was fresh underneath the crust. But he was missing a lug and had 2 others on his right rear 3/4 of the way off. Maybe I should've said something, didnt want to beat the guy up...

Random home-heating question, Mother-outlaw’s house is heated with an old (60s era) oil-fired hot water boiler. Occasionally it will turn in even though the thermostat setting is well above the call for heat temperature and it’s done the same thing with both its original and a brand-new digital thermostat. It was originally fitted with a domestic hot-water heater, but that’s been long removed. Any idea what might cause this? With the price of #2 oil and the house being vacant quite often, I’d like to figure this out.

I am far from even remotely knowledgeable but on my thermostat, I need to tell it what kind of heating system it is (heat pump, boiler, etc.) so that the can cycle correctly. Since the same thing was happening with the old thermostat, I'm sure it's not that but it's at least worth a check.

Edit: Is there possibly a draft that's blowing on it causing it to register cooler?

Since it doesn’t sound like air temperature is causing a demand, I’d explore the water heater avenue. A demand call for water temperature could trigger the heat. Water items often corrode due to metal/mineral mixes, so this seems plausible in my head…sight unseen.

It's keeping the water to a certain temperature at all times. They never modified or updated the control. Mine was doing the same thing as it used to be the only source of hot water. Since I've added a water heater I don't use the tankless coil in the boiler anymore. I disconnected one of the wires in the control box and turned it into a cold start boiler. Your boiler being so old, I doubt has a control like that. No idea what they used in the 60's. You can probably adjust the low limit as low as you can go, but that might be it. Honestly that old beast needs replaced...

If I was up close and in person I could figure it out

No doubt the boiler control is still keeping a long gone hot water coil up to temperature.

There should be an adjustment at the boiler for domestic hot water that was never disconnected .

It might be piggy backed with the thermostat control wires . Just a guess.

No doubt a Big Monster I hated removing them from basements.

Most likely there is an aquastat on the boiler. Older boilers require the water to stay above 130* to prevent condensation from developing on the cast iron heat exchanger.

Your boiler is doing exactly what it was designed to do.

    Laser!

First modification was adding what they call air assist. You basically blow air where the laser is hitting to help blow out dust/debris/smoke. It also helps to blow out any flames.

Aquarium pump, some copper and silicone tubing, and a mount. I need to find a bigger drag chain and run the silicone tubing through it.

Nice job! That’s what I’m trying to do with 3D maps. But on a Cricut, with card stock :anonymous:

In my case it involves a lot of :frusty:
