security and remote start recomendations

I am looking at getting a remote start and alarm system for my 05 tacoma, does anyone else have one?
if so, what are good brands and/or models
also, how much should i expect to pay with a clutch bypass
(i drive a clutch and have had it priced before, it was like an extra 30 dollars, and the car wouldnt shut off unless it was in neutral for safety reasons)

 

Do you have keyless entry? Have you thought about having a Toyota factory alarm put in?

Many years ago, I had an alarm system on another car and although it wasn't the most expensive setup and not as advanced as todays...but after a few years it started acting up, getting funky, arming itself, going off by itself... lots of headaches, leaving me sit.... I'll personally never get an aftermarket alarm again. I'd go with factory stuff just because its designed to work with the vehicle/programming.

 

i do have keyless entry, and i have an audio shop that i use, they can install both for me, since i dont like dealers (highway robbery in my opinion)
i was thinking about getting a combo so that i had both on one remote and one key fob

 

Python or Viper have good reputations although not your only options. I'd ask your local shop for a recommendation especially if you have a relationship with them already.

 

I have and recommend a viper 5901. I do not recommend anything factory I also recommend adding a glass break sensor as a minimum.

 

i LOVEE my python 990. Put it in when i used to work it an audio shop, plus if you have the rear slider window the unit accepts mag switches as well. So if it gets pried open the alarm activates. I vote PYTHON for your needs.

 

Same thing here except I have the 991. I would not get anything but Python. The rear window sensor is so bad ass!!

 

The python 991 and viper 5901 are the exact same alarm.

 

Have an autopage RS730 w/remote start. $350 installed.

 

Their is no need for a back up battery, most systems have hood pins to install so even if the hood is popped the alarm will activate.

 

I had my dealer install a Compu Star system in my new '11 Taco 5 speed for $200 (negotiated price) when I bought it. It works great!

 

You can cut the battery without popping the hood. I have a glass break sensor, pin switches on the hood and tail gate, a back up battery, and a dual zone motion detector with a defeat switch.

Then again I'm paranoid someone is going to steal my stereo.

 

how can you cut the power cable for the battery with the hood closed? just curious because if its easily accessible Im going to shift the wire around.

 

X2 i love it. Two way system so I know whats going on even when I am out of earshot.

 

When you do get one, consider the Smart Start add on. It is some James Bond stuff. Lets you start, stop and lock and unlock from your smart phone. I have had it for about a month, and use it more than I thought I would.

 

I did not get it because it lacks 2 way functionality... you dont know if your alarm goes off via phone, you dont know if your car actually started or not etc. Its just a one way system, does not replace your remote, and costs $300. When it can replace my remote I will get one... perhaps in a few years. Thus, I dont reccomend it.

 

It does have 2 way communications, but only for lock, unlock and start / stop. You are correct about the 2 way for the alarm part. I believe that you can get the add on module for most newer viper / aerostart systems for around $100. I have enjoyed my system. Hopefully they will continue to expand the communications between phone and vehicle in the future.

 

I have the Viper 5901 on my 2011. You cant go wrong with either Viper, Python, or Clifford as they are all manufactured be DEI. Just some of the features and some cosmetic differences on the the remotes.

 

So it tells you how many minutes your truck will run for till it stops and let you know when it times out on the remote start? It tells you if it failed during the remote start sequence? If you lock with the phone and ulock with the remote it indicates this on the phone?
