Is the auto start/stop a feature that you will be able to turn off?

I saw a video of a guy in a Subaru stuck on a hill with a dead battery. The E-Handbrake could not be engaged nor could the transmission be shifted into park so he was totally stuck.

I'm only saying yes because the Tundra has one but I don't think it kicks in very often . Not like the jeep gladiator anyway.

My '16 Mazda CX5 had an electric ebrake... loved it. One press of a button, on and off. Hill assist worked perfectly. When doing brake jobs a simple combo of dash button presses retracted the pistons, another extended them again.

Of course I never had it off road. Most people with Tacomas don't either :)

You can turn off the stop start in every car. It’s usually a button on dash somewhere.
Also once you get used to the car/truck you can stop at a light and press the brake just enough to not activate it. Press the brake down harder it activates it.
Stop start is 100% a non issue.

Start stop is terrible. I normally deactivate it, there's always a nice reminder when I forget waiting at the first stoplight.

Normal routine for starting a vehicle with auto start stop. Start vehicle with key fob, unlock vehicle with key fob, press start button, deactivate auto start stop because I want the vehicle to stay on even when stopped, turn on headlights even though they are already on in the auto setting because I don't want the highbeams on just because it's dark.

I love how people think start/stop is no big deal, but they live in northern states or Canada.

Try the searing heat of summer in Phoenix. Then you’ll understand.

Auto is the problem, I have 2 friends with that era of mazda and they don't kick in unless you push the button.

Toyota does it when the door opens (key on), or the vehicle turns off. Every time. Super annoying, and it wears out quickly. Hence wanting to disable auto ebrake.

If you turn it off does it stay off or is it something you need to do everytime you turn the car back on?

I would be curious how that works. On level ground, I might not have my foot on my brake at a stoplight, so would the computer restart the engine when I pushed in the clutch? Or what change is it that restarts the engine?

yes there is a button to disable. However, mine rarely comes on. You have to hold the brake pedal past halfway down. i rarely do.

yep, on the stick shifters I've driven with start-stop it's pushing the clutch down that turns the engine back on. Pretty surprising how quick it fires up and you can get going
