I don’t see the deal with Slavage title as long as it was fixed. I had salvage all my life, except my Tacoma….

Last car I had was a g37. They were going for $16-$19k clean title. I bought one for $4k crashed, fixed it, and it cost me $9k. And while fixing it, I also did upgrades like putting a sport bumper on, nice, aftermarket headlights, stillen intakes (they were all broken)

the radiator support was broken….ok just unscrew or drill out the old one and put a new one in. Subframe cracked (they are very forward in the g37) ok unbolt the old one, put in a new one. Airbag blew up. Ok, unbolt the old one, put a new one in. Fenders got damaged. Same thing. Nothing was compromised.

my wife’s accord got hit in the quarter panel. The shop cut out the old one, put in a new one. They changed all the compromised metal. Now it’s like factory.

If a frame rail is bent, rarely do I see a shop pulling it back into shape. They all agree that it is now compromised. So they will cut it at the factory weld spots and put in another peice from another car.

My dad only buys rebuilt vehicles.

Never had any issues besides shitty paint jobs.

Im actually amazed that his 2006 rebuilt rust bucket 4R with 200k miles still drives like a new vehicle.

Having said that, I would never buy a rebuilt vehicle. Not a chance.

The big question is longevity. 13k miles right now isn’t much but let’s see how it does 5/10/15 years from now with 100k+ miles added

I see a lot of posts saying "if x happens then it gets totaled" or "they'll total it if y happens".

I always understood it as the definition of a totaled vehicle is in relation between the repair cost and the value. It's purely a financial calculation, the type of damage doesn't strictly determine if it is a total loss.

OP said "define totaled" so here it is:

"In insurance claims, a total loss or write-off is a situation where the lost value, repair cost or salvage cost of a damaged property exceeds its insured value, and simply replacing the old property with a new equivalent is more cost-effective."

That’s like marrying a girl who was a drug addict and a prostitute for 20 years, then she decides to change her life around and clean up. No thanks lol

seems more reasonable to buy a salvaged truck than a car. With the body on frame design, it seems like it would be easier to get everything back into the right geometry again.

This could be said of any truck on here. And it is true for this truck especially. We knew what we were getting into.

Similar to my sisters 2001 4runner, she was t-boned and it rolled onto the passenger side, it was not totaled and they cut off the roof and side of the cab to the bottom of the pillars. They welded a new roof and side on replaced the doors and fender. that was 16 years and 210,000 miles ago.
