Before I make any recommendations, make sure you know that there are no DOT approved LED bulbs for your Tacoma. Auto high beam may not work correctly if you go to a brighter bulb. Street signs may not light up if the beam cutoff is too sharp.

With that said, I like my Hikari LED bulbs. Try to go with whatever their newest model is. They are brighter, and the beam pattern is pretty good.

If you don't have housing designed for LED bulbs, stay with halogen. Otherwise your light pattern will not be right.

After running stock halogen, "high performance" halogen, hid and led I strongly suggest sticking with a halogen.
Led's do not work well in a projector housing in my experience after running them for 5 months now.
At first they do appear much brighter and they do provide a much wider spread of light but in overall distance your actually at a disadvantage. Once installed you can actually see a blank spot in the light pattern dead center were the led mount sits. This appears to not allow the housing to collect and focus the light properly.
Hid's were the best performing set up I have ran on the truck yet but I had issues with the ballasts in the cold and it was just alot of extra wiring in the engine bay.
Eventually here I will be swapping back to a piaa halogen bulb. May try to h9 mod.
This is coming from someone that hit 3 deer with the last truck so lighting is a very important aspect on my truck.

    Bit of food for thought.

I recommend none. They are all garbage. As mentioned above the halogen headlamp assembly is not designed for LED bulbs and will make the light output worse. The light may look brighter but it really isn't. It is unfocused and has poor down the road illumination.

If you really want LED, then I highly suggest OEM LED assemblies. They are bright, have a nice wide beam and have a crisp cut-off. In my opinion, they are worth every penny. You will need an adapter harness to wire them up but otherwise they are bolt in.

Most the stuff off Amazon is Chinese garbage, it will be way worse than stock despite what the vendors may claim. It is not possible for replacement LEDs today to accurately mimic halogens, as a result they lack focus, they lose distance projection and transition your long range lights into a short range flood light due to lack of focus and incompatible optics with the halogen assemblies. You'll easily be able to outdrive them at highway speeds. Performance halogens easily outperform any replacement LED on the market by a long shot in a halogen assembly. I'd highly advise doing your research. See the thread below. The very best performing bulb in a 3rd Gen headlight is a $9 Philips H9. Easily beats the very best replacement LEDs on the market. But the best option overall is the Toyota OEM LED assemblies. All the data and far more is in the thread below.

You are absolutely right. Unfortunately, most people don't care.
