Currently have a 2017 TRD OR manual. Unable to locate a key. Is there a cost effective solution to get a key and then have it programmed? Have seen blank keys offered online. Are those any good? Is Toyota the only place that can program the key? What does that usually run pricewise?

    Thanks

you have no keys? ugh, how people put off getting a spare, when they know they are down to 1-2 keys left is beyond me.
I'd call a local locksmith and see if they can help,,, having no keys might require the dealer. Also be prepared to show a title, registration, something that proves ownership.

    good luck

I have one key with which the buttons do not work. This is a original key thats never been used. (my primary original key has been misplaced in the house. It should turn up eventually.) Was curious how to get the buttons working on this barely used key.

My room mate who is a Honda tech said that my key may just need a battery and not reprogrammed. How do these keys come apart? What size battery?

Mine is not a fob but an actual real deal key. It's what comes with the manual Tacomas. I did find a YT vid for my key. Thanks

I agree start by replacing the battery. With the key part pointed up and the buttons facing you there is a small notch on the bottom left corner. Stick a flat blade screw driver or possibly even a coin into the slot and twist. Go slow and gentle though so you don't mar the plastic. Take it to Batteries Plus or whatever your local battery store is. It's probably a fairly common coin cell battery.

A few, mainly added skids. I like leaving the suspension alone. I drive forest service dirt roafs in the desert west extremely extremely too fast. Toyota nailed this suspension going 65 across desert terrain. Changing it is dumb unless you have a specific need like crawling or mud.
Yikes, I'm going 2 go ahead and take this advise and go get some copies made. I have one Clutch key, and only 2 for Luna and Solaris. Sounds like I'm under keyed as well.

Something else to add to the list.

This is a little off-topic, but can a plain "dumb" key be cut at the hardware store, or does it require the smarts in it to work manually in the door and the ignition?

it can be cut at a hardware store or locksmith but it requires the smarts to start the ignition, so all it'll do will get you in the truck

Ah, bummer. I was hoping to get a skinny key to go on my other car's keyring. It's a bit clumsy with two fobs on there.

oh you can do it.... there's an in-between key called a valet key that I think will work for you. Not super skinny, but it's got the chip and will start the truck. I thought you meant a metal-only key like for a house door.
