Curious how many of you all have a 2nd or 3rd gen Tacoma and looking to upgrade to the 4th gen? Also what are your thoughts on their new 2.4L turbo coming out?

Frankly I'm looking forward to ditching their crappy leaf springs.

I like to see the truck and powertrain first before I have too many thoughts...since the truck nor the engine are out yet, I'll just wait.

i know there are exceptions, but i would never purchase the first model year of a vehicle. regardless of a warranty and dealer service of recalls, i live too far from a dealer and simply do not have the time to deal with it.

if the Gen4 doesn't have a manual transmission, i would not consider it. i wouldn't be in my current tacoma if it weren't for a manual transmission.

they might cost more but if my only choice is an automatic, there are better options for me. so for now, it's wait and see.

I'm not all that interested in the 4th gen Tacoma. The world moves too fast in the internet age, automotive manufacturers can't keep pace. The timeline to get new vehicles to market takes too long. 4th gen is already boring, and I haven't seen one yet.

If the turbo 4 is anything like the 3.5 v6, it'll be a departure from toyotas long standing reputation for bulletproof engines...in favor of emissions and mileage.

Toyota now has plastic valve covers on some models of 2023 cars.

Imo we're entering a new age from auto manufacturers where they build super expensive, not so reliable products aimed at higher income segments and not for folks who keep their rides for 300k miles + and want real basic working trucks.

I'd keep a 2nd or 3rd gen over the money pit that 4th gen will be

I’m on the fence atm, excited about the turbo 4 banger but want to know all the numbers and what/if models will have the hybrid

people will probably complain about how it’s “untested” even though some variation of it’s been in the Lexus for the last few years

If you have a 3rd Gen, there were fiber reinforced plastic valve covers since production started in 2015. Zero issues noted . . .

I have a first gen and a 3rd gen. No interest what so ever in the 4th gen. Maybe some day... But who cares what I think!

Nice and all good thoughts. Oh and next time I will search for old threads regarding my new question...

Had a 2002 hat I totaled as well and hated that but got $10k from insurance on a truck with 220k miles. Now my 2015 has been good so far less the noisy leaf springs and seat.

IMO eager to see what they have to offer. Although I'm a little worried about the Mexy Tacoma.

Kind of like cell phones and video games. Don't commit to shit until you can read the disappointed reviews of all the overeager dum-dums that committed to shit.

4th gen will be the first 100% new truck since 2005, which means new (to Taco) concepts like turbos, hybrid, and rear coils plus a lot stuff we don’t see. In addition, new factory tooling & assembly and retraining of factory workers.

Not sure I’d be the first in line w check in hand, but at least lot of those new parts have already been in service w other vehicles. I’d guess early issues will be relatively minor, and Toyota to be responsive b/c Taco is one of their franchise players. Gen 4 looks really promising, but I like my Toyota’s old-tech & simple, so hanging on to gen 3 for a long time.
