There’s more to life than just commuting to and from work. It’s cheaper to buy one vehicle to fit all your needs and pay an extra $1000 a year in gas then to buy a separate EV commuter car at $40K.

I am trying retire from my current business, and work from home. Use a bicycle for doing errands, then only need travel vehicle which most likely will be gas since charging stations aren’t up to snuff to where I like to go.

Maybe it is just me, but using a bicycle for most of the running around is much better than an EV.

Or buy a cheap EV for $25k and just pay $400 year in electric.

That’s wasn’t the understanding I got from that but I guess it works if you’re from West Virginia.

Commuting sucks no matter the propulsion.

Still need/want a truck for traveling. Buying another vehicle for $25K doesn’t save me any money.

we were getting ready to buy my wife a Corolla Cross for $30K, she decided to drive my old truck instead, it is been long been paid for like 20 years ago when I paid cash for it. And the carbon used to manufacture it has long sunk back into the earth

If I can find a cheep motorcycle frame I can make an EV motorcycle for around 5k with 100 miles range. Would work out nice. I"m lucky to live so close to work..lol

Her commute is only 3/4s of mile, plus a little running around, think she puts gas in maybe every 2-3 months. Engine has tick in it, figured run it until dies…which might be years.

The trans finally died in her Trooper, that night we went to the dealer. Funny thing is if they had one on the lot and not a 6 week wait, he probably could have sold her one…she had time to think about it ( mostly me saying just use my old truck) and decided not to spend the cash. She doesn’t really like cars anyway, and views them as appliances.

If governments would actually funnel some tax money into road and transport infrastructure instead of buying cocaine and hookers, less people would need/want something other than 4x4 trucks to get around without breaking suspension components all the time.

I used to drive a fwd sedan. It cost me over 2500 a year in parts and maintenance due to roads looking like Fallujah in 2007.

I've put exactly $0 into Taco suspension/wheels etc in 2 + years. It eats potholes and uneven surfaces and keeps going, and winter snow storms are a joke.

    Trucks aren't going anywhere

They should come out with a 4 wheel drive electric truck.

No thanks I live in the tundra. Crappy EVs have no range in -40c and there will never be charging stations up here.

EVs are a Californian pipedream. They're not for us who live in the real world and need years and years of reliable service

I think you would be the dumb one to drop $70k on Tesla.

Spending thousands to save pennies doesn’t make much sense. You would have to drive an insane amount of miles per year to make any of this cost effective.

Like most things it’s cheaper to keep what you already own. If you’re buying a new vehicle anyway an EV can be had in many cases for similar pricing and will result in overall savings. Buying a 2nd car is almost never a way to save money.
