I also went to the dealership. $300 later and nothing was wrong. The wiring does look to be loose. May see what I can do to fix it before buying a new backup camera and reconnecting it all.

Unfortunately, I haven’t. I replaced the backup camera but that didn’t seem to help. I’m admitting defeat and bringing it into the dealership in a few days.

Dang. I sure would love to know what they say! I’m considering the backup sensor replacement that I’ve seen mentioned elsewhere, but it’s just a shot in the dark.

I think my issue might have been the wiring beneath the rear bumper. I've noticed that on dry days, I have no camera issues, so I checked underneath to discover the protective cable tubing came had come undone (beginning to dry rot) and exposed the wires at their connection point. For the time being, I've re-wrapped everything in heavy duty electrical tape in the hopes that it fixes the issue until I can source some new tubing. Fingers crossed!

update, first thing i did christmas morning after opening presents with the GF was go out and start tinkering

Connection inside the tailgate seemed fine. nice and snug.

The connection behind the bumper was tight, but looked a little sad with the plastic wire housing fraying at the ends near the connectors. Last night i unconnected it, shook out some dust and gave it some love taps with my flashlight, never fixed the issues.

this morning i unplugged that same connector after I checked the tailgate one (you know, moving from the rear to the front down the line of potential problems).

I unplugged it, started the truck, then plugged it in when the truck was running and POOF, backup camera works now (reverse lights always worked, no other symptons so i figured it was some wiring/loose something and not the PNSS)

Has this been figured out? I got new tires yesterday radio and camera worked fine afterwards. Go to the store and radio doesn't work have to do it at max to hear anything and the backup camera is black.

Like a few on this post, 2014 Tacoma TRD Sport and three days ago backing out of the garage, and a crack over the speakers. Sound seems at half volume of what it should be and no backup camera. Sometimes black, sometimes white, sometimes white with multiple pixelated colors. Has anyone figured this out? I did a diagnosis and got a code of B15c1 for reference, which seems to point to the nav system, however I do not have gps on the truck.

    Answer is:

    Crappy Toyota OEM Stereo.

Go here and get a quality Stereo and enjoy your truck again.

Soooooo is the answer that the stereo is bad or poor connection/wiring?

Possibly a wiring issue, but the stereos are known to be problematic in Many Toyota vehicles.

Hello, this is happening to me now, got a Tacoma 2014. I've checked every fuse inside and in the hood near the battery, every fuse works. Low volume, black/white/pixel screen when i go in reverse, bluetooth cellphone mic stop working as well.
Gonna go check the wires in the tailgate but i don't see what is the link between the volume and the wires at the tail?

One of my friend is a good mechanic and he said there's a good chance that I need to change the radio.Going to the dealer this week.

    Keeping you posted!

The only link is the shitty stereo Toyota continues to use in many of their vehicles.

Go here and get a quality stereo: https://www.crutchfield.com/S-okCt8xWPsVK/car/carselector.aspx

Camera not working on 2015 Tacoma I just bought. There is no fuse in the Radio #2 30A location. When in reverse, there is no change to the radio/display. No black screen, nothing. Harness / connection to the camera in the tail gate looks good (disconnected and connected it back). Underneath still looks factory, so I can't see if it connects or just runs parallel with the other wire (plastic conduit or whatever, looks fine on the outside). If there is a camera, does that confirm that it was functional at some point? Just odd that the radio does have a black screen when in reverse, and I see no settings for the back up camera in the radio settings.
