    Hey all -
I've got a 12 ft kayak, and sometimes will carry longish boards too.
I'd like to get some sort of rack that is easy to install/remove for the times I carry stuff.

I would like something that extends over the cab some, so there is less overhang in the back and still supports the load.

I have a double cab and long bed. I don't want to spend hundreds, and I really don't want a roof rack. Just something like a ladder rack that clamps to the bed.

    Any suggestions?

You don't want to spend hundreds??? Likely you will then be limited to foam roof blocks (Yakima or similar) or pool noodles or some other homemade solution (towels folded under kayak or board). No way are you going to get a new rack of any kind for less than a couple of hundred dollars. Used, maybe??? Check local Craigslist or Facebook or other sites.

The Yakima foam roof blocks actually work pretty good and are easy to use and remove/store. Also very inexpensive compared to any bed/roof rack.

A ladder rack would work for you but you don't want to keep putting it on and taking it off. I often carry my 14'9" kayak with an inexpensive bed extender.

heh heh. Let me be more specific: I don't want to spend too many hundreds. I've seen some bed/roof racks for $300 and some for a couple grand. A few hundred is fine.

I wouldn't assume it'd be any different than the high-end bed racks. They attach the same way.

I just had another thought - I could put a cap on it, and then have kayak/lumber on top the cap, and a camping room with (slightly more) secure storage...

Removed some stuff, added some stuff.
You could always build your own or commission someone to build you something.

Ok, from not wanting to spend hundreds, you are now looking at thousands!!! But, I have had a cap on every other truck I owned until this Tacoma (wife didn't want one). Secure, could carry canoe, kayak, lumber etc. on top.

Cap + rack is the way to go for camping and hauling boats. But new will cost $$, and used may be hard to find.
