Nothing says ‘Murica more than a Japanese branded truck built in Mexico.

    :D

Tacomas are pretty good trucks though, just not capable of doing what I want or need from a truck right now.

The Rivian is currently a toy/look at me item for the wealthy. I generally only see them in wealthy towns. Driven by yuppy looking people.

Guessing most have multiple vehicles, Rivian would be a play thing. Have 3 vehicles myself, was fine waiting for my Tacoma to come in, only 5 weeks though. One is for sale since I am tired of taking care of three. To think I used to take care of about 15 vehicles and machines for our business, plus our personal vehicles.

Have a client who has quite a few vehicles, have a Mercedes G Wagon to tote their grandkids to the stables so not to dirty up their nicer vehicles. Yes, their G Wagon is considered the beater of the bunch.

Rivian told me anything under 4%/day is considered normal. There’s definitely some fucky stuff going on in their software programming that isn’t letting all the computers in the truck go to sleep properly. I lose anywhere from 1.5-3.5% a night which is way too much in my opinion when other EVs lose less than that in a week.

A couple running around here, most look like retired guys who cashed out in California then moved here. I know a few personally, wouldn’t say they are wealthy, but do have a little extra cash to burn. Since they were able to sell high there and buy low here.

Or it is a house of cards, and they are what we call “Hundred Dollar Millionaires” mortgaged, financed, and/or leased to the hilt. Look like they are well to do, but aren’t really.

One of my wealthiest clients drives a 15 year old Camry. Could give two shits how he appears to others.

20+% loss in a week? That seems like a pretty big waste of energy.

Definitely a waste. Good news is that it all should be fixable since the truck is really just a huge software defined platform. Over the air updates can pretty much tweak anything about how the truck operates.

Yep. Depending on how you much you care about numbers it’s been an average (mean) of 3% and a median of 2%. If I remove the highest outlier of an 8% loss night it drops to a 2.58% mean and 2% median.

It’s not a jealousy thing. I think it’s lame that people are buying them and not using them for what they are intended. They will never go off-road and never get used as an actual pick up truck. They will spend a lot of time at Starbucks though.

Agreed. I’ve seen so many of them that people have immediately taken to get vinyl wrapped, ceramic coated, hand polished, and washed daily after any sprinkle of rain if it was unfortunate enough to have been left out of the garage. Mine is dirty, has been washed twice, never seen the inside of a garage, tows regularly, sees dirt and gravel daily and is a truck.

This is just from an outsider looking in, so give me some leeway.

Not sure why some people get so upset about EV's? Really? If someone wants to spend their money how they see fit...let them. If someone wants a Tacoma..have at it. They both have weaknesses and strengths. Hell, I just want to drive a M3P or Rivian. It would be a blast! (Probably get hooked)

Would a Rivian (or any EV truck in the next 5-8 years) work for this guy? Absolutely not. Wouldn't even consider it due to Range and how much weight I tow. That doesn't mean I can't appreciate the strong points that either offer.

Even though I have no intent to buy an EV in the foreseeable future, I get excited for new technology and ideas. I wonder what 10 years in the future will bring?

Change, people hate change. That and the smugness that surrounds EVs being touted being more environmentally friendly, which is similar to what Prius owners face. Are they? Jury is still out on that. Plus the thought of being forced to buy one in the not so distant future, whether it be mandated by the government, or petroleum powered vehicles get so expensive to operate they are forced to buy an EV.
