LOL, don't confuse the prognosticators with logic, they'll continue pull numbers out of thin air as if they were gospel.

    Lol!

Recently read a book on how statistics and numbers are used to persuade people. If one really wanted to save money on a new vehicle purchase, buy the cheapest gasser you can find.

None to speak of, just enjoying it for the moment.
MFR's employed start/stop tech to get to mandated CAFE regulations. It is not, nor has it ever been good for the consumer WRT reliability and longevity. In fact, current start/stop tech has a clear adverse effect on engine longevity. MFR's continue research to create bearings that won't be damaged during the start/stop process but while making small gains have not resolved this major drawback. Remember, start/stop tech is NOT for the consumer but to allow MFR's to meet their average CAFE MPG requirements. It is used as an easy way to improve the numbers at the known compromise of reliability and longevity. It is, at this point, industry common knowledge that SST is not consumer friendly, good for engines or popular. Your dad's old saying that 90% of engine wear occurs during startup and shutdown was absolutely true.

It's really a nonissue these days, this isn't the 1990's. Engine wear occurs on startup when the engine is cold that's what "your dads old saying" applies to. Modern start stop won't activate until your engine has reached operating temp. The starter will get cycled more but modern starters are designed to last up 500,000 cycles as opposed to old school starters which would crap out at 50,000 cycles. Modern synthetics have advanced and new engine bearings are designed to last 250,000-300,000 start cycles for this reason. If you don't like it, like I don't, simply turn it off. Now you don't have to use start stop but your starter and bearings are now much stronger because of it. It won't save you fuel but reducing air pollution does affect other people.

The only start/stop I'm interested in, is if a hybrid motor is doing the work. It's hard to explain how they function differently - I can't stand start/stop on my F150 (so I disabled it), but I love how it works on our hybrid RAV4. Not only that, the RAV4 coasts to a stop, and pulls away ,under electric only power, most of the time.

I'd get the all gas version just to be that guy.

It could be possible. Some article mentioned the same hybrid in the Lexus RX will be in the next tacoma hybrid. Comparing the weight and transmission, could be close to 30....hoping.

lol...they have had many chances to fix that, especially with 4-8 years of generation gaps. At least have one 'performance' engine and one none, even that would help.

Was there an option to disable it or did you had to do it manually?

It's more efficient than an equivalent combustion-only powertrain. They've just decided to stop offering the less efficient equivalent powertrain as an option.

It's the same strategy, implemented differently.

Not to hijack this thread (but figured why not since we're probably in a 6-month holding pattern), but how is Tacoma's crashworthiness?

There’s a switch on the dash to turn it off, but it resets every time you start the truck. I bought a module that plugs into the switch and leaves it in whatever setting you last had it in. There are also ways to turn it off in the computer, using Forscan.
