Few immediate thoughts jump to mind.

One, that's a lot of unsecured gas. Two, that's a looot of gas to be carrying in a polypropylene container.

A poly container that works on gravity feed means its going to be riding high on the bed and likely not grounded. It will even more likely be refueled while sitting in the plastic bed. Most people don't bond-strap their cans to eliminate static discharge. I would not be wanting to use that on a dry day. Not that its ever a common issue, otherwise they wouldn't be selling them. But still, I wouldn't want one.

I'll stick with my inconvenient metal can.

    I bought a couple of 5-gallon Scepter®-branded polypropylene cans sometime in 2021.

Very shortly after, maybe on the 2nd filling of one of them, when tilted sideways while partly full it began to leak & dribble from somewhere within the removable filler/spout assembly. It's a setup for an unmitigated disaster if a leaky gas can tips over in the back of a closed truck bed (w/ utility cap) with other tools in the back. Cordless devices which might momentarily trigger if someone forgets to remove a battery, heavy iron/steel tools which might clang together on a bump or curve & make a small spark, etc.

I will never buy or use another Scepter-branded gas container.

A sealed-type plastic gas can should be able to handle being tipped over & left in any orientation, including upside down, indefinitely, without leaking.

I have had much better success (so far) with 7 different NO-SPILL™-branded plastic cans I own, in 1.25 & 2.5-gallon sizes. These also happen to be made in the USA. None of them so far has leaked a drop under any circumstances. I invert & shake each one of them twice after filling at gas station before they go in the back of the truck.

Are you saying it was leaking from the new fangled POS EPA approved filler? Most know that you throw that shit away and buy a simple screw on cap.

OP, I have one that's been sitting outdoors unused for over a decade and hasn't fully deteriorated from UV. It did the trick back in my boating days when I had two 180 gallon tanks and the boat got approx 1 mpg (it was a very long walk along the docks to the parking lot from the slip.) It's too much of a PITA to tetris in the truck with supplies for *my* regular use and is relatively heavy when filled (> 110 lbs). I'm a fan of the smaller 5 gallon sceptre cans (after you replace the shitty big-gubment mandated spouts.)

Yeah it was leaking from the piece'o'shite fancy button-activated lever-armed safety spout, not from the body of the can itself. I'm sure a plain cap would return the can to serviceability for storage & transport.

But the NO-SPILL™ cans have button-activated spouts that don't leak. Prefer that vs. swapping out solid caps for pour spouts every time the can goes in or out of back of the truck. I can drive 50 or 100 miles with a ready-to-use can in back to fill up a chainsaw.

It's designed to be secured. There are 2 straps recesses on each side. Don't you effectively ground any can when you grab it out of the bed?

I feel like most gas cans, plastic or metal, are designed in such a way taht they are to be stored the the cap facing up. I tend to think of the cap as more splash protection than long term seal, but that's just me I guess.

Yes. If you are fueling and or pouring after touching it to the ground. How many people are going to do that with a 110 pound tote, though?
