Unlikely. The removable roof on the Gladiator was fun, but it was also a lot of hassle and the novelty wore off over time. Perhaps if I lived in SoCal instead of the PNW, where it could be utilized more continuously. My roots, interests, passion and degree is around performance cars. For the last 18+ years I've focused on 4wd trucks because that fit my life needs, hobbies, lifestyle, homeownership responsibilities and so I tried building sporty trucks to contain all I was looking for into a single vehicle resulting in a vehicle that was a decent blend of jack of all trades and masters of none. With the switch to using a performance car EV as the daily and the old Tacoma as the weekend warrior, the vehicles don't need to be compromises anymore. The car can offer mind blowing performance beyond any ICE vehicle in the price range and the Tacoma can excel at the usual compact/mid-size 4wd truck things Toyotas are known for.

I do think Rivian's are awesome pieces of engineering. I wish they were a tad smaller, as they are more 3/4 size than mid-size like a Tacoma. But this is only their first product platform, they'll grow and continue to offer new, better and more affordable products. The first Teslas were $100k+ in 2008. Now a Tesla model 3 can be had for $36k after rebates, undercutting the average price of a new car in America from traditional manufactures.

While I appreciate the simplicity of a single vehicle platform, it would be hard to pass up on both these for a single EV that would be more expensive and arguably less versatile.

If you are a power/speed junkie, it will absolutely ruin you. In the M3P if you punch it the acceleration is uncomfortably violent. Had my Mom drive mine, she's a car enthusiast that has mainly tailored to MB roadsters over the years but now a Lexus convert, had to coax her to punch it. She nailed it at ~35mph. The acceleration ripped the sunglasses right off her head and sent them flying into the back seat. A whole bunch of 4 letter explicative followed. If you haven't driven a performance electric vehicle, you just have no idea. Even my Dad's C6 Corvette is so painfully slow and boring to drive after the Tesla. One of the best ways I can describe it, you know that uncomfortable freefall/weightless feeling you get in in your stomach on a rollercoaster going rapidly down hill? Did you know you can get that accelerating in a flat straight line?

That acceleration sounds insane. I think you’ve made the right call on the 2 vehicle fleet

Yes, in 3-4 considering all production carbon created during production and EV IS better for everyone in 3-4 years. A gas car will continue to pollute...here's this engineer guy I post often explaining how.

I wasn’t referring to only CO2 emissions, but also the overall impact of resource extraction. We’ve gone rounds and round over that in the EV thread. Will they be better? Or are they simply yet another product to continue the insatiable thirst of consumerism? Which enable corporations to keep their firm hold on their control.

khaki2020offroad Posted this in the ev thread, albeit a bit of an indoctrination video, she is wrong though.

Yes he takes that into account. 3-4 years an EV is 0 carbon footprint not accounting charging from fossil fuel charging which is still like 1/64th the footprint of a petrol vehicle. Still production isn't carbon/emissions free. Some companies want to switch to green production. Walmart with green hydrogen forklifts and. some trucks for example. On site solar, wind, hydro if possible. And upcoming lithium free batteries etc. now it's not where it can be but currently it's still less polluting than a petrol car all the data says.

Unfortunately most 3rd World countries want to live like Americans, and if they did it is suggested it would take at least 5 Earths to satisfy those desires. Doesn’t really matter if the energy sources are deemed “green”.

It doesn’t. But is it really? Petroleum is after all stored solar energy a natural occurring substance. Sure it can be harmful, it is also is what made the human race impressively successful, so much that our population has exploded to what is it now??? 8 billion people and growing.

All this takes time. I know some expect it ALL green now but it isn't. It will take time. Be patient.

I've had my Rivian since early October 22, coming from a 07 Taco OR and 17 Taco Pro. If anyone has questions, I'm happy to provide answers.

I’ll be long dead before that happens, which is great for the environment since my energy and resource consumption ends with me.

Wealthy enough to spend $80-100K on a toy. What more do you need to know and why? Would you like their home address and tax returns?

just find it amusing when people complain about what others have, then continue to make further judgements

would also love to hear your gripes on taxachusetts but in light of TW politics rules perhaps this isnt the place

could stereotype those who always cry poverty

but that would be ridiculous, in fact criticizing others is petty and childish

    albeit fun and amusing :argue:

I’m not complaining about anything. I’m just stating what I see in my travels. Get over yourself.
