I’ll survive their safe, yet hateful words.

I’m not going to destroy land, I pickup my trash along with other trash I find. I’m by no means out to cause harm or damage any land I visit. If you wanna jump my ass for taking a shower with soap & shampoo in the sticks…take your shit elsewhere ya green haired hippie.

    Not much stock left.
Thx for the post. That looks like what I need. What is the OD of the fitting on the deflator?

I tested a CVT duel channel over the weekend and it was so much easier to close than my current RTT. It handles the 4” air mattress lime butter.

Wife and I took the Heep down to capital reef this past weekend and did the cathedral loop and muddy creek near hanksville. I brought all our recovery gear but probably should have gone with another vehicle for the cathedral loop portion. Road starts at a river crossing. I couldn't see the bottom so I decide to wade across barefoot. It only went up to my knees at the far end. I didn't want to sink the gladiator with 2200mi on it just yet. https://www.nps.gov/care/planyourvisit/cathedralvalley.htm

Since it was so cold out, I didn't really worry about the bentonite hills. 100% would not attempt this part of the trail if rain or mud is in the bentonite. It will fill your tires and you will be stuck until spring.

The Trail is 'easy' but with snow present, it makes it a little more challenging.

The sketchy part of the road was the north portion and some snow covered switchbacks. I put it into 2nd gear 4lo with my rear locker on and let the engine do all the braking. I was also aired down to 18psi. I need to get a winch for the heep as those switchbacks could have turned out to be a bad day if the road sloped towards the edge.

I think adventuring by yourself really puts it into a different perspective. We did have plenty of gas, and also brought a 4-season tent, sleeping bags, food and in case we were stuck. We also carry a Satellite communicator (spot x).

    PXL_20230218_180034492.jpg

The rest of the trail was dry with no issues. We ran into another 4-runner along the trail.

Didn't really get any pics of muddy creek. It is rated as a moderate but even that is a stretch. It is mainly easy with one or two moderate spots.

    Hey Guy, me again.

So I'll be arriving into SLC around 8pm on Saturday and leaving around 5:30 am on Tuesday. Based on the weather forecast, do yall think if I rented a car, I'd have issues with the traction laws you have on my arrival and departure date getting to Solitude mountain? I'm staying at Solitude.

You might be fine if making one trip up and one down.

They usually only have traction laws checkpoints in the AM going up, and never seen one going down.

That said, if you are running into town a couple times, etc, thats a little risky

So hows everyone else who lands in SLC travel up the canyons to the resorts in the winter? I assumed they rented cars but knowing the cars aren't 4wd or have chains what do they do when they get stopped by utah dot and can't get to their resort

And yes worried about the traction check points but also worried the (most likely front wheel drive sedan) they will most likely give me won't make it up the canyon after your snow storm this week. But I'd assume they do a pretty decent job at plowing and road clearing.

Do they have a shuttle? It's very likely.

yeah, i would be worried. there' definitely going to be issues.

    https://www.utahmountainshuttle.com/solitude/

what about these guys? it's about the cost of a car rental for a one way trip. if you're only going up once and down once, no need to pay the extra days, right?

well the car rental would have been free b/c we were using points. It would be a sedan rental that would be free. I think my wife looked into the shuttle b/c I remember her saying it would have been $188 one way.
My buddy that goes to park city alot says he always just schedules ubers. But I'm leaving solitude at like 4:30 am to get to the airport on tuesday and was worried they may not show.

Call the rental company and tell them you need something with 4WD?

ahhhh. that's fair. for peace of mind though. i would say it's easiest. but yeah, 430 is early especially at solitude. someone might not make it up or want to come up. and you'd have to make sure to order one of the bigger ones. or schedule one of the bigger ones so that you can get all your gear down as well as have a more guarantee of 4wd/snow tires.

I think eh's tried that and can't get a hold of them.

I've spent a ton of time on the phone with a few trying to get and actual person at the utah location. It's impossible. And the reservation people say they can't promise a 4wd if they don't know the onsite one will have one.

Get a shuttle to the resort unless you plan on tooling around the valley. parking is insane these days driving up on a Saturday there will be lines. And if it’s like this weekend driving is a no go.image.jpg

Price quote for shuttle: $188 one way with a $40 extra to stop at a store for groceries. Return shuttle is $188 plus 20% for early pick up. So total for shuttle will be $453.
We are coming in friday late so hopefully there are no lines to the mountains that late. There is a parking sport available to us with our airbnb.
Finally got to enterprise and I can rent a small SUV with AWD for $384. This might be the best option for me.

By driving is a no go do you mean its just too crowded and no parking or the canyon was closed and no one was able to get to the resorts? Yalls snow storm should be done by tomorrow with little snow fall after but it didn't show any on Saturday so I'd assume road closures won't be an issue then.

We ended up being able to rent an compact suv with AWD for $440 that included the extra insurance. Cheaper than the shuttle and we have the ability to use it if we need to when we are up there but doubt we will. The place we are staying had a covered parking garage spot for us also. Just didn't feel comfortable trying to rely on UBER to come pick me up tuesday morning at 4:30 am and didn't want to change missing my flight. One car service said they would pick me up but it was going to be $300 plus tip for that one trip, so add whatever for the up trip and the car still makes sense. I appreciate everyone's suggestions and input.
