Just checked. No rubbing on ours either. If you cut the little plastic pin, it’s seated properly, there’s no body damage and it still rubs, agreed, I’d contact them or just get a replacement.

Since it’s powder coated I probably wouldn’t grind it. Breaking the surface could lead to rust or other problems.

Hope that helps and let us know how it goes!

How did you (or they) resolve it?

He offered to replace it free of charge. I just took off about 1/16-1/8 off the corner of the composite. I don't really think it had to do with sabellco but it's good for them to know as he can adjust the design 1mm if it continues to be an issue with 2023's. Toyota's robot making the beds might be spending to much time on tiktok while at work not paying attention.

For the rubbing on the SaBellCo Lock, if you loosen the bolts on the tailgate skin and center the holes in the liner you will not have to trim anything.

As for the other lock, it was a cast mold of our lock then sent to china for duplication (ethic is not a strong point there as we all know). It is not machined, it is cast zink, not made anywhere near the USA. It can be bypassed by taking a socket to the lock an hit it with a hammer and the bottom drops out and they get your tailgate. It is cheap and if you look at the reviews the locks stop working. But you get what you pay for in this day and age so you have options.

    https://sabellco.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&path=33_60&product_id=68 $99 + shipping or

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08GKH2QH2?ref=myi_title_dp

or china copy, cheap lock, casted in zink

I'm late to the party. I had the same issue. A dremel tool and small grinder wheel and just a touch off the plastic bed liner did the trick..

I installed SabellcCo ... no rubbing, I even forget it is there. Two concerns:
    > If I lose the key, how ugly will the "drill-out" be to remove the cylinder?
    > The plastic insert was rather mangled by removal so if I ever sold the truck and wanted to reinstall the plastic insert I would have to find one.

I know, such weighty matters to have hanging over my head ... worse the the Sword of Damacles.

Be sure to take a picture of the key code, I can always order a new lock with the same code.
The plastic insert, I have had 5 new ones sitting on the shelf for the day when some one ask.
The only thing that could happen to the insert is it falls off when someone steals the tailgate. The clip provided zero functional benefit

ha! Is everything all good now with the lock?

I put mine on 4 years ago and maybe removed it once last year to install an oem tailgate lock, no issues with mine ever.

Probably, but not the same product. There are many options, people can choose what is right for them. Pros and Cons to most of the options out there.

For proper comparison ... $40 for the product by christian OR $100 for SaBellCo are BOTH cheaper than $5000 for a new tailgate.

At least to my puny brain.

Just installed my lock last week, and seems like a great product! One less thing to worry about... Only issue was I don't think I got the cover that goes over the keylock...

That is a dust cover. Any tape with a plastic disk will do. Maybe twice a year spray with graphite powder and open the lock to exercise the loc parts jut for grins.

After cutting the retaining pin on the plastic bushing has anyone had any issues with the plastic bushing moving causing tailgate opening/closing binding?
