So if the 22 came with a turbo you would of bought a frontier instead?

Would have gone another direction, Maybe 4Runner...........may still go that direction I have a 23 TRD Offroad Premium coming for my wife. If I like it enough, I may get one too. Not really a big fan of this 3rd Gen. I liked my first and 2nd gen better. This transmission sucks. I just drive it in 5th gear sport mode, it even gets better milage.

that i did not know, the disable with tune. holding intake open on the compression goes against everything i know about car engines. can't imagine the mechanical workings in the motor to make that happen.

Typically own vehicles until the wheels fall off, then rebuild them and drive it until the wheels fall off again. 4th Gen has peaked my interest and may trade in early which is uncharacteristic of me.

Probably still wait 4-5 years until they work out the kinks of the new platform.

“Atkinson cycle” in a Tacoma is achieved by simply changing intake valve timing via the camshaft. Very simple design.

IMHO it was a huge fail because I get same or better MPGs tuned while getting more power, I’m 600 pounds overweight too. Go figure.

Rear coils are gonna have every 2nd 4G Tacoma flopping onto it’s roof in the pass above Telluride. Leafs keep my truck planted, lack of turbo prevents forest fires, and drums are better for off road! Nuff said.

I am of the opinion that 1st model years are not the year to buy of any new model especially if the powertrain changes drastically. If they use a turbo 4 cylinder and transmission that is from another proven Toyota model it maybe different. I am not a fan of the complication of turbo charged engines even from Toyota. It’s why I decided to buy the last year of the current generation. The last year has the benefit of all the learnings of the previous years Tacomas, especially since there were a lot of carryover parts from 2nd gen. I want this to last 10+ years. After 7-8, I want to make it my hobby truck and modify as much as possible. At that time all my kids should be out the house and hopefully by the grace of God all independent and off the payroll.
