    Hey So Cal peeps
Anybody going to be in Big Bear this weekend?

Kids want to sled and play in the snow, otherwise I have little interest in winter up there. Anyone ever head into Holcomb Valley in the snow/ice/mud?

I might have to venture out and see what’s-what.

Thats my fear, and why I’m going Thursday. Weekends seem to be a zoo up there. Traffic and etc.

We went and had a good time.

As predicted, traffic was dismal, particularly Monday on the drive down, but we expected that.

Did do a little off roading, but was far more mud than snow.

Kids had a blast sledding and hanging out.

hopefully they'll be getting some fresh snow from the storm this week, might be worth battling the traffic this weekend (with patience)

Gotta take the fire roads up and down, avoid all that mountain traffic. There are a few options from the high desert side.

Anyone going up there this weekend? I'm planning on heading there after the storm on Sunday. Riding solo to Holcomb Valley campground with my kids. I've been there many times during the snow with no issue but I heard this week's storm is a different breed.

We are hoping to, same thing...solo with our daughter. But I'm going to try and see what conditions look like come Saturday, I've been up there during some huge snow storms in my Tacoma but our 4runner is mostly stock, and getting stuck in the snowy woods with a 3 year old doesn't sound awesome lol.

If it's as much as they say though, could probably just go a little ways up Coxey Road/3N14 up the backside of the mountain and find good snow without going all the way up. Coxey Road goes all the way up from Hesperia to Holcomb Valley Rd.

yeah they are getting pounded today through Saturday, I'm still going to try and go out that way with the family on Sunday but I suspect we won't have to go too far up the mountain to find good snow to play around in.

Haha and thats not even a fire pit, it’s a 2.5ft natural rock retaining wall!

Cabin has renters this weekend. Snowplow will be there shortly to clear the drive, but still supposed to keep snowing all weekend.

I hope renters are ready to shovel out - Because plow cant come through again with a car in the drive!

Did you go on Sunday? 330 was closed, so I decided to take Coxey road. That shit was gnarly. I got stuck once and had to winch myself out. I almost got as far as the big pine flat campground, but everyone ahead of me started to turn around to descend. I spoke to a guy in a lifted jeep cherokee and he told me that even a wrangler with 40" tires couldn't make it any further due to the amount of snow up there. Heading down was crazy too. There were so many people coming up while we were descending causing massive traffic jams.

Yeah so we went but didn't go very far up, there were just too many people. Sucks but that's usually what happens after a big storm on the weekend. We went about a mile or two up and then ran into a line of trucks trapped behind a 5th gen 4runner that was stuck real bad. I asked someone what was going on and they told me he was 2wd :bananadead: idiots lol.

We just turned around at that point and hung out at the staging area for a bit because there was a good amount of snow there for my daughter to play in. Then we headed toward home and stopped along the 138 near the Cajon Pass where there was a ton of snow.
