Are eBay and Amazon tail lights the same as OEM?

Yeah we don't use it here, it's an archaic interface from the 2000's or so. Check out Kijiji.

 

For a 2017 wait for OEM take offs. But if they are hard to find you get some of the knock-offs while you wait. You may decide to keep them.

For my 05 Gen2, I bought a pair of cheapos off of eBay for under 100 shipped. They were fine - they did not include any wiring or bulbs but it all snapped out of the broken lights they replaced.

 

eBay is pretty much all Amazon chinezium junk you get what you pay for so don’t be surprised.

 

I have run 3 different sets of eBay tail lights on two Tacomas. They've been 100% reliable. I'm just happy I haven't cracked them on rocks or tree branches yet

 

I have, I find it to be riddled with ads and pop-ups. I wish the BuynSell was still around... those were the days.

 

Is the SR5 different then the TRD Sport? I'm seeing 81550-04180 for the trd sport, and 81550-04170 for the SR5.

 

I think what I'm seeing is a 2 bulb red version for the SR5, smoke for the offroad, and red 3 bulb for the trd sport

 

I replaced a tail light and bumper with parts ordered from ebay on my '09. They worked great and saved a bunch of bux. I figure they were counterfeit, but...

 

For your year, TRD Off Road and TRD Sport are the same. Bulb config is the same between SR5 and TRDs. TRDs have a black inlay inside the red outer lens.

Wow thanks, the difference is super subtle. Here's a photo of mine for reference, it doesn't look that dark.

 

We have folks here complaining about chineseium knockoff tail lights, when it's just a simple plastic housing with reflectors and lenses. Meanwhile you're already running eBay/Amazon reverse light LEDs that can fry the body control ECU if they ever short out. Alas, they've been OK.

 

The "enthusiast" mindset in general would be a great case study for a psychiatrist. We buy a $45k truck and can't wait to put 5 cent stickers over the glove box logo. I'm a guitar player and participate in a forum, many members buy a $4,000 custom shop guitar and the first thing they do is swap the pickups or put new tuners on it, without even playing the thing and getting to know it.

 

I prefer buying the knockoffs. They look almost identical and I'm less pissed off when I break them on the trails. Last time I bought a pro set they were under $180 bucks. I would rather break these. Of all the comments I get or questions on the tails no one has ever asked if my tail lights were aftermarket.

Well I'm still struggling with this. It looks like to me one is LED and one isn't, but I don't see how the lamps are different.

 

I had pretty good luck for a while with the knockoff I put on the right rear of my 2012.
However it does seem to be making blinker fluid the last 6 months or so.
