So we’re saying the new hybrid is more efficient than a non existent ICE only engine with similar HP? Got it.

Did a bunch of posts from earlier disappear? I started reading some before going out to dinner and now they are gone.

Yes, if you have two powertrains that get the same fuel economy but the hybrid has significantly improved output, that is the conclusion you can draw.

Technology has made vehicles more reliable. You hardly ever see one broken down at the side of the road.

70’s 80’s and 90’s vehicles from all makers were unreliable crap. Vacuum hoses, points, coils, distributor caps, automatic chokes, etc etc. When I go out on trips it’s always the 80’s landcruisers, Jeeps and whatnot that break down. Sure you can fix them with bars-leaks and bailing wire, but who wants to spend two hours on the trail fixing a shitbox with a leaking vacuum advance or some nonsense.

When they did away with all that shit, in its entirety, and replaced it with a computer, a few sensors, and canbuss system, everything got way more reliable and simple. Technology simplified vehicles, and produced far less points of failure. My 3G Tacoma is a hundred times simpler that the 1980’s vehicles I owned. Its body also doesn’t turn into Swiss cheese with rust, but thankfully Toyota still gives us rusty frames so I can still enjoy fluid film.

4G Tacoma will probably be the simplest Toyota truck yet. Molded out of one piece of plastic and run off an app or some shit.

I have to respectfully disagree. Almost every weekend during the summer I travel across a small, but very steep mountain range in 95+ degree temperatures. Every trip there are multiple vehicles “broken down at the side of the road” during the summit. They are usually newer cars and small SUV’s from Nissan and Chrysler/Jeep (Compass and Renegade).

You should retrofit your Tacoma with a distributor, points, vacuum advance, vacuum wipers, signal flasher relays, and a carburetor! Definitely be more reliable!

That's because the percentage of new cars is so much higher. How many broken down cars from the 70-90s would you expect to see? I'd expect not many, since most have long since been retired.

An even comparison would be comparing how many cars were broken down each weekend during the 70-90s.

I feel like using Nissan and Jeep as a ruler on reliability opens oneself to trouble.

GM announced last week that 2023 Colorado/Canyon engine choices will be limited to four cylinder (non-hybrid) engines. Looks like anyone wanting a 2024 V6 mid size truck will be forced to a Ridgeline, Gladiator or Frontier

I would gladly trust a well maintained 80’s technology Toyota versus a 2010 (or newer) Jeep Compass or Dodge Nitro. Matter-of-fact my late father drove a Ford F150 300 cid in-line 6 for nearly 300K miles before the rear main seal developed a leak. His Dodge Ram with the slant 6 ran over 250K trouble free miles before he sold it, and the older gentleman that bought it was still driving it around town nearly 10 years after he sold it.

Dad sold the old Ram for a new Isuzu DOHC 24V port fuel injected Trooper that was flawless for about 15 years before a new Suburu Outback that was a totally unreliable POS. His last vehicle was a new Highlander that out-lived him…..

You can’t go wrong with any of those V6 options.

Yeah, their 310hp/430tq option on 87 octane in any model via dealer flash is a real bummer.

The non domestic ranger raptor will receive a 3.0 liter twin turbo v6. Good chance the American version will receive the same engine. If only toyota would put the ttv6 used in the base tundra in the next 4th gen trd pro. We’ll see how the hybrid 2.4t stacks up. The ridgeline has the best v6 in class anyways IMO.

I think the Bronco Raptor has that same powerplant.

I disagree, the gm twins price from mid 30's to high 50's. I don't see Toyota being non competitive with them.
