I think it is still good it changes instantly with rate hikes so your money is only tied up 4 weeks and always getting top interest. Where as banks it takes a long time to change the rate.

We left Capital One and went to wealthfront, and are at 4.5%

Yeah, I updated that, I was shocked for a minute, haha... may keep an eye on them anyhow in case of a big rate hike

i dont think wealthfront was much higher at the time we made the switch and my brother told me he has had good experience with C1 so i chose based on that

Right before the shenanigans I was at I THINK 2.4% (ally, same shit, as noted). Then it went down to 0.2% or so. Now I'm at 3.4%.

It swings slower than the fed, BUT it's (marginally) more stable. This is my emergency fund which I want cash, liquid, and accessible at all times, so I'm happy to sit at 3.4% instead of hunting bonds/etc.

    Wealthfront isn't a "bank", and it's at 4.05%

We work with partner banks to offer exceptional banking features with ultimate flexibility and the security of FDIC insurance. And unlike some other accounts, ours doesn’t come with sneaky requirements like minimum account size, required direct deposit, or required debit card transactions.

So, seems like 5% dicey. I'm happy with ally, we use it for 97% of our banking needs (we have a brick and mortar down the road for cash deposits, which has come in handy a bunch. We found the ONE bank that does a no fee/no shenanigans checking. Everyone else around here has SOME level of fee, usually waived with activity or deposits, but I didn't want to deal with any of that shenanigans).

Me too but for like, 4 years.

But, to be fair, I think a lot of this HYSA/internet banking stuff is circa ~2010, maybe a bit before that, so I don't think I missed that much. You, maybe.

same with capital one right? no fee/no minimum checking. another reason we chose C1 was the location was close to home as well

only gripe is they could update their app to have more features. our IberiaBank (now FirstHorizon and soon to be TD) had way more features available even when it was the small town IberiaBank

Ally is the same for checking too, no fees, etc etc.

The closest Capital One "bank" is in/near NYC. The local bank is just for depositing cash, since Ally has no "cash deposit" option.

Although it looks like C1 has Ally beat for that.

    https://www.capitalone.com/bank/add-cash-in-store/

    https://www.capitalone.com/bank/atm/
    ^^ there's a few of those nearby.

Another alternative we used was Amex Bluebird, which was nice even with a bank, since they work on walmart hours - not banking hours. I think I got an email that they were going to stop doing something, can't remember what, it was a while ago, so we looked elsewhere. I do (boomer voice) prefer to give cash to a person instead of an ATM, though, and the bank is half a mile from the house, I can just run out during lunch for 2 minutes for a deposit as needed. So, I found the ONE "fee free" checking account in the area. Coincidentally, they were at the end of my road

AND, one time, they took a water-damaged check and being able to show the check to the person at the counter and them check it out in 2 seconds to see it was useable was a benefit.

Different strokes, same objective, negligible difference overall. :notsure:

We have one at the close target, and one in the target I pass if I am hitting that specific set of MTB trails, about 10 ish miles away. Closest branch is NYC, as mentioned earlier. Just not established up here, I guess. Oh well.
